1965 or 1966 VIN?

Hey guys, I was trying to confirm a vin on a car. My book "Original Porsche 911 by peter morgan" says it is a '65 but told its a '66? VIN #303010

can anyone help me out?

Thanks

The 1966 model year is supposed to start with 303391-305100 per Peter Morgan's book. Your car's VIN is 303010 which would mean that your car was a built in MY 1965. Only 235 cars were built in 1965, so yours is rare indeed. The rarest of course are the 13 cars built in 1964 as prototypes, and those cars have no published VIN's. Yours is definitely early and therefore valuable. Whoever told you that it's a 66 needs to do his/her homework, or is trying to work a better sale price with you...

Wow. that is something. Its odd because the color code is 6604 which is light ivory for 1966 model? I may need to get a COA as another member has stated. thanks for the info man.

66my

It is a 1966 MY, built in late 65.

Vin #s for 66MY are 301900 - 304955. 65MY vin range are 300001 - 301899, which includes the first 232 cars built in calendar year 1964. These 1964 cars have a fairly large price premium over the rest of the 65MY cars, which in turn have a large price premium over the 66MY cars.

Hope this helps. J

Love the Redbook, but it does contain errors. This is one of them.

A lot of the 64v65v66 information can be found on the Early911S forum, where this topic has been parsed ad nauseum.

From what I've read (I'm no expert, but did sleep....) it may depend on where it was originally delivered. ROW (non-USA cars) were model yeared off the calender not some arbitrary date to sell 1966 cars in mid 1965. We have a July built 912 that is 1965 (409th built) but I've seen later serial #'d cars as both being '65 & '66. Also have an August built '83 SC Cab ALL paperwork (from factory and dealer) shows it clearly as an '83, which as we know was the last yr for SC's. So, this whole debate is clear as mud.

#303010 would be late November-Early December 1965 BUILT ,

the numbers are not in order as some cars took longer for special paint or options.
