Someone talk me out of buying back my first Porsche
So my old 944 came up for sale...
Just another worn out early 944 but I've regretted selling it since about a week after I sold it. I sold it because I wanted a 944 S2 and because it had a few issues I didn't want to work on. It probably needs a good going through to be a reliable driver again but nothing I can't handle. It still has the snow tires I put on it lol. On the plus side I still have the owners manual, tool kit and passenger seat ![]() On the other hand I really don't need another (or any) old Porsche. If I sold my current Porsche and the parts I've accumulated I could buy a Cayman free and clear ![]() "these two sides of my brain need to have a meeting" Last edited by Jrboulder; 10-26-2015 at 02:43 AM.. |

Can't be expensive to purchase, that's for sure, but might be expensive to fix!
What are your memories worth?

If I could find my silver on red 1978 911 widebody targa I would buy it back immediately. I understand not wanting to go back to a 944. Sure, they are great, but I would not have another for quite some time and would pass on my turbo s if it came back my way.

I happen to know of a REALLY nice 87 944S coming up for sale in the near future. 86K miles and a real beauty.

I can't talk you into it, because:
1) I've never regretted selling any of the 944(s) I've owned (1na, 1S, 2 turbos) 2) Money put into a 944 won't appreciate like a 911 3) Frankly, for a cheap p-car driver I'd buy a boxster. Newer and easier to work on than a 944 (yes, I've done both) |

I owned a 924s and enjoyed it. But I don't think I would buy another one. I would only consider a 968, 944S, or 928 at this point.

You can never go back.
Your old car could easily disappoint you now and ruin you memories or bring back the bad memories of it. Reality of the car today is not as fun as your memories of it. So let it be and enjoy your memories. Make new dreams and times with the Porsches you have now. Or buy a better 944 and enjoy it. |

Oh and like 'Euro 1984' says, give the Owners manual back with the car, they go together.

I somehow had 2 owners manuals and I gave the buyer a choice between the 2 and he picked the nicer one which wasn't the one that came with the car. Same thing with the toolkit. The original warranty/service book with the build sticker and service stamps went with the car.
I watched some videos of the underside of a 944 and I'm like "eff that!" |

Ficke, this is so true. And true with a lot of things in life. It's never as good as you remember. My advice: Buy a Cayman like you said you could. Make new memories. |
