Why these BS stories?! Quite frustrating..

As a small time classic car dealer, I am honestly not surprised that so many of the members on here are turned off by some of the BS dealer antics.

Just this week, I had 3 different inquires where the buyer pretended to do the buying for his "father." And each time, it turned out to be another dealer wanting to do some nonsense trade in. And it sucks! You spend all this time communicating, taking extra photos, climbing under the car looking for stuff, calling the mechanic to look over some items, etc.. Just so you can find out at the end that the potential buyer was another dealer making up some touchy story. It would make it lot easier if he/she would cut the BS and simply offer the trade.. Would save me a lot of time and work.

Regardless, thank God for all the opportunities and lessons. Life is grand. Just needed to vent a little.

Cheers and great wk'end to everyone.

Sold my 28K 88cab almost two years ago for a grand or two less than I figured was "all the money".
Dealer said he was buying it for his brother who could not find one in the pristine condition back east.
Two days later on ebay for 10k more....good for him although I think he only got 2k more.
Agree - enough of the BS, I got my price and was satisfied, if I didn't, I would not have sold the car - no need for dishonesty ("kharma dude").
Then went to purchase a 993 and lost one from an honorable seller that had given someone first right to purchase as he was a private individual going to keep it forever - It was a dealer.
Yada yada yada - it will never change mulsanne79....we "private party enthusiasts" are competing with the weak ethics of the resale business. I believe any business model is fine, but would like to see transparency....(I am a dreamer!)

I get at least three of these calls a day on my Targa. "dream car" "my dead father had this exact car" "I was divorced and had to sell" ... and the list goes on.

Just like all the craigslist WTB ads looking for "any air cooled Porsche in any condition for a father-son project"...lol

or, the "private collector looking to buy any air cooled Porsche, Jaguar XKE, Triumph, TR2, 3, 4, or 6, AH 100-4, 100-6, 3000, etc.".

Really? Must be quite a collection...

I don't care who is interested in any of my cars and what they do with it.. I don't mind all the running around, emailing, taking extra photos.. I don't even care paying a local Porsche mechanic to come buy and look at the technical stuff when someone has a particular question that I can't answer.. All that is part of the job and providing good customer service; and I love it. … But if another fellow dealer wants to buy my '97 993S, and wants to trade for it Porsche replica, old beat up Chevy truck, and 02 Civic with 250k on the odometer.. Well.. It would be nice to know that beforehand instead of wasting my time, energy, and money with "my father stories." .. And on that note, I am going to sell that C2S this wk'end! Determined .. Wishing great Friday to everyone from mighty Georgia!

A buddy of mine listed his super clean 993, got tonnes of interest. The buyer worked for a local "stealership", he said he loved the car he'd been looking for this particular car for a while, it would be his baby and he'd keep it forever. So anyways less than a week later the car was flipped to the dealership who then flipped it for $40k more. My friend was happy because he made money on the car too.

Then I was lucky to have another friend who saw the same car during its brief stay in the showroom, a salesman told him "the previous owner was a 70 yr old gentlemen, it was his baby, his wife made him sell it, there was tears in his eyes as the flatbed towed it away." More BS, my friend had a good laugh at that when I told him.

I mostly find cars for people. I guess I'm a Porsche 'matchmaker.' I have yet to have anyone who sends me to take multiple sessions of 'additional photos' actually buy the car.

But my biggest gripe is guys who don't clear their Porsche purchases with their wives before cranking up sellers/matchmakers. In that regard, I welcome dealers/flippers. At least if they identify themselves as such.

Read this board and other car forums like Ferrari chat. They are littered with the same sort of stuff. Buyers who are dealers and pose as "collectors" or family members or other fictitious stories. The weepy son who wants to replicate his late fathers car but does the transaction through a dealer, or the "collector" who has been looking forever for that year, make model, color and agrees to buy the car .... then says oh company XYZ is going to act as my agent and buy the car as a dealer.

I helped a guy who was trying to replicate his dying father's 911 from 40 years before. And it was real. There are people buying cars for sentimental reasons. Playing on sentiment with made up stories is reprehensible.

If the game is the buyer/seller lying to himself....

Do people really think the "my wife is going to be so mad" and the "I had to sell it because I was running low on cash" (a month later) stories aren't 100% transparent.

We get it, there's money to be made...
