'83 SC on eBay

In Portland OR. Chiffon White. Seller says 27K actual miles. Buyer beware. Go see this car before you send any money. IMHO - Not as advertised.

OK. Didn't know how much you wanted to hear. Thought that a heads up would be enough. The car has serious rust issues. I don't know how long ago pics were taken but it was long ago. Shows signs of being in a flood, debris hanging off wiring and fuel lines. Rust in weird places. Even wiper shafts rusty. Seller had zero paperwork, knew nothing about car. Paint has brush touch ups in numerous places. Wheels not original to car. Has front spoiler but none on rear. There's more. Is that enough? Yes, my first post but couldn't let someone bid thinking that it was as listed.

'83 SC on ebay

Anybody notice the seller states the car was originally special ordered and delivered new in Ca but clearly shows it bears a "ZZZ" VIN code which I believe means a ROW car.

That's odd (maybe) - the VIN sticker and service book match with a "WP0AA" VIN. The "ZZZ" code is stamped on a panel and matches the other numbers in the VIN, except for a "Z" in place of an "X".

That's gotta be there from the factory, I'm sure it's a US car per the VIN sticker.

Cheers

Sorry, didn't mean to be snarky. Without any details, I read the post as possibly coming from someone with an axe to grind. Thanks for providing more info.

Hard to get an '83 to rust on the west coast. Especially with only 27k miles. I wonder what the story is. $47k is top money for an SC. Like Hagerty #1 money.

Normal for back then as they did not know where the car would go until they put the engine in.

All the bodies were stamp with "WPOZZZ..." in the Frunk. If the car went to the US/Canada, the VIN on the door would be "WPO***..." where in 1983 the *** would be AA0 for a Coupe, EA0 for a Targa/Cabriolet and JA0 for Turbo.

As for the other Z (in the 9th position on a ROW car), for the US/Canada it could be an X or a number (0-9). It was a place holder that mean nothing.

DeeJayOh, no problem. As I said, I don't want anybody bidding on this car thinking that it is as represented. I appreciate the apology. I went to look at the car for a friend living out of state. The car was sitting in a fenced lot, dozens of cars there without license plates, most were 15 or so years old, looked to be a detailing shop/gypsy car lot. I looked at it for 5 minutes before the guy arrived. When he did I asked him a few questions, he knew nothing about the car, thanked him for meeting me and told him I would have my friend call if he had further interest. There is rust on the passenger side at the bottom of the windshield. You could push your finger through it if you wanted. The leading edge of the hood was rusty and brush painted over. The window frames had corroded so much that the anodizing had flaked off in places. Again, they were brush painted over. The door panels were warped, the pockets broken and flopping on the panels. The headliner is torn, passenger side rear corner. But not in the pictures. It stunk inside like a wet dog. You get the idea. And yes, I have not posted here before this time. However, I have been a member for a couple years, have bought cars on this site. I do read posts regularly but, up to now, didn't feel the need to post. Regards...

"Sold" - or so they thought - on eBay two weeks ago for $45.2K. Just enough time for the winning bidder to get the thing inspected and back out? Or maybe it was the seller's conditions buried way at the end of the 100 Large Photos?

Figured it was something like this, but good to know. Thanks!

Not too familiar with SC's - is there supposed to be something that looks very much like a disconnected speedo cable in this photo

Most likely the 45.2k was a bull**** bid with the sole purpose of making the car look hot
