87 targa value
I have a line on an 87 Targa with 100,000 miles on it. Runs well, paint is 6 out of 10 needs the deck lid repainted, Targa top is not torn but doesn't fit the way it should. Needs brakes all around, Driver seat needs to be redone, Shifts excellent and has good power but has an intermittent power issue which I believe to be short some where or bad DME relay along with bad fuel pump as those fuses do blow from time to time. Has brand new tires all around I know its not a $40K car but overall nice car and not very overwhelming for me to fix.. Whats it worth?

Geez Ben, sounds like a lot of problems to sort out. I'd be low $30's at best on this one, maybe high $20's.
Need pix tho.

Buy it now!!! Worth at least $25,000 just like it is. Without too much effort you can have a very fun car to drive. I would do the important things after you buy it and then the other stuff later. Brakes, seat, DME problem fixed and then you have a great car!!!

87 Targa
Hi.
I bid $25 K cdn. That's about $20K US on a good day. I would buy that car in a heartbeat. I have a white 87 Targa and it's a great car with 78K miles on it and it's the best car and investment I ever made. Keep in mind I only get to drive it 4 months a year up here in the Great White North but it is a great car. Good Luck John |

Ok update. I purchased the car and am in the 1st stages of cleaning it up. My plan at this point is to probably sell the car as it would pay off my cabin that I built a couple years back. I know not what all of you want to hear but I want to be as debt free as I can be. I want to build another 914-6 so I will probably buy a clean but needed work 914 once I sell the car.. or maybe a 944 turbo .. At this point its the best family choice.. So what do you think is fair.
The car is much nicer then I thought. the deck lid does need to be repainted. and there are few very small dings that could be PDR. The calipers need to be worked through and the engine runs just fine (bad gas), the interior is very nice better then I thought the driver seat has 1 seem splitting but otherwise pretty nice. here are some pictures let me know what you think. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I dunno, Ben seems pretty up front and honest about his intentions. I wish I was debt free - smart move with this car given the market conditions.
Anyone with half a mind would have purchased this car for $10K. It has huge potential. But then again it has potential for someone who knows what they are doing, and the brakes and all the other issues take time. And time is money. Ben - I hope you sell this thing for big money and pay off the cabin. It will be worth it. Take your time with it, detail it, clay it, clean up the engine. It could bring some really good money. I am not sure if most of you know who I am ?/ I was the original owner/designer for M&K exhaust and produced all of the Rarly L8 exhaust products and contributed on this forum until about 2 years ago when I sold the business to Brian from Rarely L8.. I then built a cabin on family land for my kids to have something to hang onto forever. I currently owe about the profit margin on this car. I have no intentions of lying, cheating to anyone. Do a search on my user name you will see that I built dozens of 911 engine over the years, did many brake upgrades, did a turbo conversion on a 77 911..
Not to go on but I bought this car with intentions to get back into the hobby that was ruined for me as a business owner. Once I am debt free I can start fresh and build what ever I want and to me the best car I ever had was my 914-6 conversion.. Ok done with the quick introduction. Please keep the feedback coming

I must admit, while I've never purchased a car to flip, I have sold one or two rather quickly for a nice profit. I hold no malice against you Ben. You were upfront before you bought it, and you're being upfront after you bought it.
Make sure you fix the top along with everything else already mentioned. My biggest question as a buyer would be engine rebuild...done or not? Done? I'd estimate mid $30's. Not done, high twenties. Good luck. Oh, and good going with the cabin. Great idea paying it off and having it for the kids down the road.

Unfortunately No idea on head studs not enough history on the car.
Just FYI I wasn't sure when I started looking at the car what I would do with it.. I did allot of thinking before I decided to "flip it"

Like I said Ben, get it done and put it up for $$$ big money. It looks clean enough. Pay off your stuff and if you were lucky to get this one in the first place then you'll find another and then you can get that 914. I don't see this as a flip. I see this is as a smart business decision by someone who has the specialized knowledge and luck to do so.
