Tail or no tail

i have an 84 911 Targa Black
It has a tail but no chin spoiler

I am getting ready to sell the car it is pretty much stock 82,000 miles
I have the original deck lid trying to decide if I should remove the tail
which is an original Porsche Tea Tray tail or sell it with the tail

Other mods on the car are Rennshift shifter
Weltmister front and rear sway bars and shocktower strut brace.

Considering the age of the car it has not be hacked up over the years
I am the 3rd owner and have owned it since 98 all original gorgeous black
paint no accidents.

I would lose that tail (I think that tail is only correct for a turbo, it's not a Carrera "whale tail")

That is a turbo tea tray tail and as mentioned not correct for you car. If your car originally had no tail and you have the original decklid, put it on the car. Originality is king these days.

And a factory 930 decklid with tail is worth a bit.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that if you have a tail, you must have a chin spoiler, otherwise your front end will lift at high speeds (b/c the tail is now push down on the rear) and you will lose steering control. I remember reading that it's OK to have a chin spoiler and no tail but not the other way around.

*AS I READ IT* The front lip, tail combo reduce lift more than they create downforce. Good thread below if interested.

That tail is worth good money, just expensive to ship. Put the decklid back on and make some money selling the tail. Win/win.

As has been said that tail was never offered on your car, its from a turbo. Nick hit it right. The tail is worth a decent buck (its a pita to ship) and the car will be an easier sale with the original deck lid.

Targa is always better looking without tail. Rear window / rollover bar forms a neat triangular shape, which complements the rear end similar shaped larger triangle which ends to door jamb.

Tail sort of destroys this nice harmony. Hope not to offend targa with tail owners, but this is just my view.

Anyway, you just have to admire engineering and visual beauty in 70s/80s 911.

No tail. Not likely original to car.

Check market for Turbo tea tray tails (confirm yours is not after mkt) and tail-less engine lids.
