What do you think its worth? 911 993 Targa (Glass Top)
Hey Porschers, I am trying to find the market value for my Uncles 911 993 Targa (Glass top, supposedly rare). I've looked around on Nada, Cars.com, EBayMotors and even carmaxx. The Porsches from that year vary wildly in prices. A friend turned me on to this site, so I thought I'd ask you guys for some help. Here are the specs: 1996 Porsche 911 (Model 993) Targa 25k Miles, 1 owner, great condition (see pics) Here is the VIN and sticker info: WP0DA299XTS385510 Standard Equipment: 3.6 Liter, 6 Cylinder, 282 BHP Hydraulic Self Adjusting Valve Lifters - SDual Knock Sensors DME Engine Management System Resonant Induction SystemDual Exhaust System Vented Disc Brakes with ABS-5 Rear Engine Transaxle TOE Correcting Rear Suspension Stabilizer Bars, Front and Rear 5 Spoke Speedline Rims 205/50 ZR17.255/40 ZR17 Tires Integrated Bumper w/Fog Lights Extendable Rear Spoiler Solid Glass Power Sunroof Power Steering Filtered A/C and Heating w/Climate Control Remote Central Locking Alarm System with LED warning light Front seates-power hieght Adjusting AM/FM Cassette Stereo with 6 speakers Automatic Speed Control Power side mirrors and windows headed side mirrors, windshield washer nozzles & rear windows 2+2 seating Headlight washerFront airbags 3 pt. The premier version of the normally aspirated version of the 993 is the C2S followed by the C4S, then the regular C2 and C4's. The cabs and targas are generally considered less desirable.
Having said that the low miles, manual trans, "safe" color combo are pluses. I sold my C4S with 65000 miles last year in the mid fifties. I've been monitoring prices and there has been some increase especially at dealers but I still see similar cars in that price range. So my WAG would be 45-50 because of the mileage. I'm assuming 100% original paint which for reasons I don't really understand is a Huge factor. Also if your uncle is the original owner that seems to be a big plus. There is a very active 993 sub forum over on Rennlist. 993 Forum - Rennlist Discussion Forums You can ask there but you will get some flack over asking about pricing from some. Good luck Jim |

Having almost sold my C2 a month ago, I gained an up to date picture of where the NB market is. A similar C2 to the one you posted would be in the $55-60k range. Subtract $5k for being a targa and you'd be pretty close.

Personally, I think the glass tops are really neat and I would be surprised if they don't end up more expensive than coupes and cabs. I always thought they were innovative and beautiful.

mint condition, with the low miles, it might bring closer to $70k though it might be harder to find a buyer. if it turns out its a little less then mint, then sub $60k.

Let me be the first to suggest you cut a deal with your uncle to buy the car.

As you can see there is a huge range. I could definitely see $70 K asking at one of the "high end" dealers, especially with the low miles.
If you become a paying member over on Rennlist you can put up for sale there. Be aware that unlike Pelican users can leave comments on your for sale thread. Jim |

The price on the Luxsport car is insanely high, just like everything listed by them. It's just shy of WB money. But it is in mint condition, which the car pictured in the OP is not. The interior looks quite rough (what's up with the driver's side bolster?).

There aren't that many individual buyers looking specifically for a Targa.
BUT, only about 1200 came to North America. This car with its very low mileage, unaltered stated, and Polar Silver would be highly desired by most anyone shopping for a Targa. These attributes would also make it attractive for the premium used Porsche dealers to want it in their inventory. I'd suggest spending some money on a good detail (by someone that knows what they are doing, not some goofs with a five gallon pail of Armor-All) and have a photographer take some quality photos. Then list it on eBay, Pelican, Rennlist, Autotrader, etc. Good luck to your uncle and hope he has a healthy and happy retirement. max

I am a 993 targa fan (though it should really be called a panorama sunroof), so there will be buyers who prefer a targa over a coupe.
Two things though: 1) the driver side rear wheel has some serious road rash. Before trying to sell the car, you should consider having that wheel restored. 2) Th driver seat seems very worn for a car with only 25k miles. It is very easy to swap out or turn back the odometer on a 993. Your claim of 25k miles should include plenty of dealer stamp and maintenace/repairdocumentation to support the mileage claim (Carfax will show nothing about mileage on a 1 owner car). GLWTS |

The little plastic odometer gears are notorious for turning into mush causing them to be inoperative. I had to change mine out.

Nice car!
Unfortunately most (enthusiast) buyers are seeking coupes, and some cabs depending on the buyer. Targas have always been a weird in-between (I like them) but the reality is that sporting buyers want a coupe and Sunday drivers want a cab. The 80s cars where simple and there's not a whole lot of difference between models. The 993 Targa has the same base mechanicals as the other 993s, but the Targa roof is pretty complex and not always reliable. In terms of the Targa feature, I would place it below the coupe and cap values short term. (today) Long term it may draw a premium due to it's uniqueness / rarity. Check out Hagerty insurance values for a general idea on value.
