but all of the flipper, car beware, scams, and fraud posts are starting to freak me out.

Tell me to take a deep breath.

I'm getting ready to look at your classified ad!

In all reality though, I'm delaying my search until after the holidays. Impossible to make a trip to pick up a car right now.

I think you are suffering from Internet Hysteria. If you put your car up for sale and somebody pays you for it, where is the risk?

I bet he's more worried that someone will start a thread in this section about the sale and question everything from the COA to the seller's choice of toothpaste.

You are probably right - Internet Hysteria is a powerful drug.

I'm not even sure you need to post it here. There are more buyers than sellers these days, and I for one would want to touch and drive the car first.

Contact your local PCA chapter first. I'm sure there are guys chomping at the bit for an SC nearby.

They're all using the wrong brand of toothpaste, obviously.

I've sold a few on Pelican, most recently a 914-6 conversion. No doubt you're going to get a lot of opinions from all the "experts" but for the most part the Pelican board members are easy going & only really call out a seller/car when there is a lot of BS in the add. Post many pictures or link to pictures and a realistic/accurate description. We all know what we're looking at & the real cost/value of the car. Be honest & try your best to weed out the trolls.

There are tons of ads that get no attention in this section of the forums. As a seller, you don't face much risk unless you severely misrepresent the car and the buyer is pissed. Also, beware made up sob stories by flippers and dealers.

Why?

This just makes no sense to me. Dealers and flippers are the best buyers, in general. They are decisive; don't have to 'ask the wife for permission,' generally have their money lined up...

True, but a lot of people regret being taken by some guy saying it was their dying father's last wish to get this car or something and then seeing it listed on eBay two days later plus 15%. But yeah, money is money.

But every time you sell to a flipper, a puppy dies.

I love the sob stories, or the stories about "oh this is the exact year make model and color I have been searching for"

... Really has it been that har to find a Guards Red Targa? ...

Oh and you're wiring the money from a dealer who is just acting as your "agent" for this transaction, he's not actually buying the car for his inventory? ...... Sure

It's pretty hard to get scammed if you don't hand the keys/title over until a bill of sale is signed and the funds are confirmed 100% in your bank. Take a deposit via Paypal and make sure to finish the transaction in person. Used car sales 101. There are plenty of great enthusiasts looking for a clean SC like yours. GLWS

I think they have been getting some pretty low bids recently. Was better earlier in the year. If you use BAT, put in an acceptable reserve price.

If you can wait, I'd hang onto it until spring when more of the country is going to have reliably good weather. Or at least wait until sometime late January after all the last second tax decisions are made.

Plenty of good folks looking for a good honest SC from an honest seller.

Considering the increase of scammers and flippers polluting Pelican's classifieds, in a seller's market, I would just post it locally on Craigslist. You might be more comfortable having someone hand you a stack of cash.
