1973 MY production started in August of 72. Feb 73 is late production, not early.

This just posted, and in the OP's neck of the woods.
$38K indeed.

+ change... ;-)

FWIW, the same car popped up on Craigslist two weeks ago for 55k obo. Ad was taken down within a day...

I think black might be one of those premium colors. A really well cared for black car is both a thing of beauty and a rarity.

IMO that's a solid #3 vehicle, which hagerty puts at 46.9k. The owner likely has much more in mind, so you have to wait him out. Offer him 50k and let it sit around for two months while he tries to get 85k.

The issue is the market is so hot and everyone uses those hagerty prices that there'd be four guys lined up to give him 46.9k today if he'd take it, so you gotta bid a little over the hagerty price to actually buy one.

Also, as others have noted, T cars sold in Germany would have carbs, not MFI so I question whether or not this is actually a German delivery car. I also see sugar scoops which were US only equipment, but then again they could have been added per requirements to import the car in the 80s.

Very good comments. Agreed 100%!

Regarding the red/tangerine T: I need to verify this with the seller. Not only does it have (US) sugar scoops, but a (US) mph odometer. If the car is indeed a Germany delivery car, then the total mileage is of course higher than what the seller claims.

Hagerty is 3-6 months behind the real market. It's that dynamic right now. If you can buy a car at a current Hagerty price you stand to make a decent profit if you want to flip it on down the line next week.

Most cars sold to US servicemen overseas were delivered as US spec cars on the assumption that they would be taking them home at some point. The thing to figure out about the story on this car is whether it was a factory delivery of a US spec car to an American or a German car bought on the street and taken to the base by a serviceman.

$55 to 83K in two weeks !

That's one crazy inflation rate.

Same pictures, though. I guess the seller realized that he may get more than his initial asking price and pulled the CL ad...

Especially if it's the original color. This one was sepia brown when new...

The red Targa is confirmed to be an original US spec car. Seller has now listed it on PCA mart for... $53k.

kp.sfo 02-18-2016 08:38 AM

VIN for reference: 9113110377.

Per seller, car has been sold to Germany. Don't know for how much.

I did not. Got the impression that seller was firm at 53k, so I didn't bother to make an offer. Wasn't ready to pay full asking price for this car, so I passed.

Yeah, I wouldn't pay that much for a car meant to be driven.

Don't know about further north near the city, I hardly see any longhoods being driven in the wild around here in the south bay. Maybe once a year. Do people still drive these cars here ?

Other SC/Carrera's I see regularly being enjoyed by their owners.

Agree 100%. I'm in the South Bay Area, too, and hardly see any longhoods on the streets any more - such a shame! Maybe a result of the current inflated market with folks thinking that their 20k driver theoretically turned into a 80k investment. I can only hope that the market cools down again (not just because I'm partial as a buyer, but really because I hope that this will lead to longhoods being driven more frequently again).

I think you need to gain perspective. These can be/should be daily drivers regardless of the price. And price/value is all relative. Some people drive cars worth more than these every day; MB GL450, a Range Rover, a new 911, a Lexus 460...all worth more than the 911T you are talking about as your daily driver.
Just buy the car, drive it and hopefully when you sell it you get more because 1) it appreciates 2) you maintained it well 3) you fix any issues leaving it a better car for the next owner.

I only have 911's and they are the only cars worth driving winter summer spring fall.
