Speaking of prices on the rise - longhood 911S prices still strong

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/898452-1973-2-4-911s-sunroof-coupe.html

I have to admit - this one caught my eye. I knew the 911S cars sold for quite a bit more than the other cars of the same vintage, but 2x -3x? That I didn't know. Love the color combo on this one, but they didn't wear polished Fuchs from the factory, did they?

No, they never came with polished Fuchs from the factory in '73, but those look like anodized wheels in the pictures. Relatively minor details but it is missing its compliance sticker in the door jamb. It has earlier bumper guards on the rear of the car and is missing its ugly front bumper guards, of course who can blame them as hideous as a 73 bumper guards were. Looks like it probably has a replacement dash also. I don't know why people put the later speaker grills in their dashes when they have a quarter of a million dollar car. The original speaker grills are easy enough to find in excellent condition. All in all a pretty nice car.

It looks like a really nice car.

Being a 911 fan for 35+ years, I have to say that a 'S' was never that common from these years. I saw 911Ts all day long.

$270K is pretty steep. I'd say it's not a #2 car - not even close.

It's a #3 car and $150K should seal the deal. Or I'd buy myself a T.

I think that the guys that can afford an S these days can afford the best and their pockets are very deep. Anything that is not 100% perfect suffers terribly. I recently sold a very early flat floor Jaguar XKE roadster and although it was a nearly fresh restoration, the value was greatly reduced as mine as not matching numbers and had a few minor upgrades. Guys would rather spend another $100k and buy the best. I have a 70S that is the same - amateur restoration that we did 10 years ago and non-matching but S correct motor. I have no idea what's worth but I suspect $60K at the most. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm sure your 70S would sell in a heartbeat for $60k. And you'd have a list of people like me interested in it.

Yeah, I'm kind of in agreement here. To me the premium of S cache just doesn't make any sense. It's not a performance thing. So many 70-73 911Ts got S trim packages and even sport seats. I would buy a nice 911T hot rod for $50-75k all day long before I would pay $100S or $200k more for one with an S vin and engine.

I understand the price difference between a 356 Carrera GS and a standard S model. The Fuhrmann 4 cam is a damn special engine. But a 911S is just a high compression cammed up car that doesn't vary that much from the rest of them. I think current pricing of S models is just plain stupid. But then I don't have $1/4M to spend on a car, and if I did, I would buy me a water cooled factory built racecar like a 996 RSR...

I know of a nice T for $150K, if you're ready. Very very nice car.

Thanks, I'm sure it is especially if you're saying it is.

Right now the '75 S is an old a car as I would ever want. It drives like a longhood and it's just as light.

If I were in the market I'd be buying a newer 911 like your 996 TT or something that drove like a new car. Lately longhoods have felt to me as just old cars compared to the newer experience.

I agree. The people who buy these cars for that kind of money most likely already own a selection of Porsches new and old of different flavors, a few Italian cars and a few houses etc. No story, no excuse cars are what they seem to be after and there is a huge price difference between the two.
That Being said and I do not know your car, rust, accident repair, etc. other than you mentioned #'s but I would think that 60K is incredibly lite in today's market.

On a different tangent how about a picture of the Kawi, is it stock? Nice bike.

In my mind the "s" vin status is similar to why people will pay more for something called a dime, and not as much for something called a nickel. Otherwise they are just coins.

If your planning on trading on its value in the future you'd be better off holding the dime, especially if it said US currency and not Canadian

It looks like a deal when rust buckets are being peddled at $20-30K.

That's a sportomatic. Huge value decrease for that.

Ever since I first started paying attention to early 911 prices (2004, when I bought mine) I can't remember coming across an S for less than $80k, unless it was a piece of crap rust bucket. I can't see a running car bearing an S VIN selling for 5 figures in today's market.

Sadly its going to be sold as part of my divorce settlement. Don't bother with the PMs yet as it will be at least a few months before it can be sold.

That's why it's 60k you have to take the wife with it, gentlemen the most expensive Porsche on the planet!
An amicable divorce I hope, nice bike by the way hope you can hang on that and the others.
No offence I hope.
