Insurance Value
So my insurance company is asking for the approx value for my car. I bought it and have zero receipts. Anyone care to put a number on it?
Here are the details... 1971 911E No sunroof 2.7l bored out to? 3.2l I as told. Twin ignition. Weber 40ida's Original 901 transmission. 5spd. 959 bodywork with a late model Carrera interior. (86-89) Brakes are from a Carrera as well. Wheels are 3 piece made in USA FRH. Minor rust in typical Porsche spots. Appears as rockers were replaced at some point. ![]()

What you paid for it is the current value for insurance purposes.
Your Bill Of Sale dollar amount would stand up should there be a claim. Looks nice. |

That's what I'm hoping. I didn't overpay for it so they shouldn't have an issue with it. $28,000 seems reasonable to me. The body work will lower the value I get that. Plus it's not the original motor. But I see $15,000 basket cases. This is a perfectly running driving car.

Appraisal
Spend $300.00 and get a professional appraisal.
The insurance company is happy, when and if you decide to sell you have some proper documentation. In Ontario I had to redo a couple of my cars as the values increased. Money well spent if the unthinkable happens. On the downside those vultures will charge you more money. |

$28000 seems low. Yes, the body and interior and non-original motor devalue the car a lot (50%, probably) but an all-original 71 E is worth a lot more than $56000.

Sorry - but I see very little of an original 71 E in that photo...

True, but a 76 sheeper in a strosek body sold for 33k at barrett the other day. You would think a 911e vin tag with a 911e engine might be worth at least a bit more...

The insurance company is happy, when and if you decide to sell you have some proper documentation. So where to go for the appraisal? For 20 years my SC wasn't worth much and I was happy to just carry liability. I asked my agent about agreed value last night and she asked me to get it appraised.

Appraisal
Not sure who does it in the States.
You could try the PCA web site they may have someone listed. Alternately you could ask on the Early S site if anyone knows someone in your area. |
