Need some help establishing value 1976 Carrera 3.0 Coupe
Hello Pelicans. I've been sitting on this car for a while always knowing it is something fairly rare and special. I have like 9 projects sitting in my shop and as much of a soft spot as I have for this car and as many ideas I have for it, I think it may be time to consider letting it go and I need some help to determine the value.
The car is a 1976 Carrera 3.0 Coupe VIN 9116600XXX. Originally Bitter Chocolate the car is currently wearing black paint over a pair of RUF "Yellowbird" style bumpers and matching fiberglass Turbo tail and as much as I believe this car should be all original, the current bumpers are actually quite stylish and of high quality. The car is unfortunately missing it's engine and transmission which obviously is the real value killer since this car originally had a 930/02 aluminum cases. I bought the car exactly the way it sits except for the BBS wheels it wore. Condition is fairly good, I see no signs of previous collision or corrosion repairs. There is a bit of paint bubbling at the windshield base indicative of minor cleanup needed there but nothing worse than that. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Please forgive dirty/leafy pictures, she's been garaged until two weeks ago when my garage renovation started. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1455206416.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1455206436.jpg |
I've owned a 77 Carrera 3.0 Targa for 1.5 years and have been following the prices since I bought it.
Without the original motor the car will take a drastic hit in value as a core motor can cost $15-20k and then you have to rebuild. How close is the car to running if you could install a motor in a weekend and get it running? Does it need a complete restoration? I'd say as is $20,000. Driver condition cars are $50-60,000 and it goes up from there. Concours examples are six figures. |
Thanks for you input, also wondering what the value would be if I was to source the correct cases for this car. Of course car would not be "numbers matching" but lets just say I found the correct series of engine......any input appreciated.
Car is close to running, only thing missing is the fuel filter assembly in the engine bay. |
What does it have for an engine? An SC engine?
$20-25K as it sits. Add $10K if you find a correct type number engine (complete, just the case will only add a couple grand). Running driving with the original engine it's $40-50k with the wrong paint and bumpers. |
Mileage on the chassis? Interior, trunk and engine bay pictures?

P.M sent.

3.0 are highly sought after now-there have been some listed recently on ebay and prices on restored number matching 3.0 are over 100k- there is a demand for your car but must have a period correct 3.0 engine- good luck with your car

And even WITH correct 3.o engines they aren't actually selling for over $100k...
|
They do in Europe and Australia. The ones that have been on the market in the USA have been track cars or modified from stock cars that aren't 100% original or a concours restoration.
They are a different beast than the 911SC. Anyone who says they are just like an early SC is ignorant or just hasn't driven a properly setup or tuned example stock vs stock. |
i sold my 1977 3.0 Minerva Blue on ebay last may for $96,500 it was a great car but not restored

Dino had one here for sale a week ago-non-matching rough condition but ran well sold for 52k

Well, I think it's time to sell mine. Look for the ad soon, I'll be cleaning it up over the weekend and taking some pictures.

I see you posted the car for sale at $30k. Since you asked for help on the value in this thread, will you keep us posted on whether you get any action at that price?
Good luck with the sale... David |
I'm open to some negotiation and I definitely will keep this thread posted. Funny 3 930/02 engines have surfaced 2 via PM and one locally. This might get interesting.....
