I'm pretty sure if this thing is real, I'd rather have it than a Singer.

I think it more accurate to call this car a mule than a prototype?

I know a guy who has a 1974 911 X, supposed to be some sort of prototype? I've seen it briefly twice. When I see him again, I will inquire more. Tim

Totally possible. Theres a car here in Colorado, a 67 or 68 That was the mule for development of the 2.2I 911S engine. The cardex confirms it. As such a small company back then they sold everything when they were done testing with it.

Matt, I met the guy at my car wash and talked briefly, then oddly enough, I saw him again at a neighbors party. He's a straight shooter, says Porsche made 6-7 of them and then they were to be destroyed. Not exactly clear how he ended up with it. Seems he's had it since the 80's. It looks to have an oil cooler under rt. Fender. Engine lid has that scoop/piece similar to the 993? He says it has holes drilled in strange places like they were trying to route things? It's interesting, I will find out more. Tim

No decklid logo I've ever seen 67-77 has the letter drop below the baseline of the numbers. Look at a 911S logo. The bottom of the S is flat.
The factory didn't generally make special badges for prototypes/mules. There is also zero precedent of them ever doing an X model. They do R,RS, and RSR. WTF does X mean?

For $295k I would be looking for all sorts of documentation or is that just a thing of the past?

I kind of remember when Don uncovered this car. It's the real deal and as the link says the Cardex confirms the history. It's pretty much the first 911R.

I'm not buying the car so the authenticity v. value matters not to me.
What matters to me is I think it may be one of the sexiest cars for sale in the world. Whew!! Love it. One day I'll get the balls or stupidity to make the inside and engine bay of my mint 85 look like that. Til then -- DROOOOOOL |
