1978 Porsche 911 Targa For Sale FRAUD ALERT

RESOLVED, No Fraud: *thank you to the Pelican Communty (most of you) for helping. ........................My car is currently in Palm Harbor Florida at Trouble Free Auto Service on Alt19, and is For Sale. I am the true owner but there is a guy that has contacted me to purchase it that has exhibited some very odd behavior. He says his name is Christian B. Larsen from Denmark, however right after I sent him a pic of my driver's license, my bank info and the face of my car's title, fake ads started showing up. The Facebook page of Christain B. Larsen does not respond either. He acts like he doesn't understand but I gave him lots of references to prove I'm legit like the contact info of my bank and the shop in Palm Harbor where the car is, even the name of the Chief of Police in Indiana where I'm from, and he continues his little charade. If you're interested in my car or have info about this character please get in touch. Gary 317 508 6566

That isn't a targa.

Why did you give anyone your driver's license???
This scanner has probably misrepresented both your information and Christian's. I wouldn't be surprised if Christian, whomever he is, doesn't know any more then you do. Christian is the John name of Scandinavia.

Not unusual to request that before wiring money. Verifies name and address match title and bank information

I've never been asked for that. Not once.

It's safe to say most people would not wire a significant chunk of cash without verifying identity.

Unfortunately, this leads to the possibility of identity theft which is what the OP is worried about.

so matt monson, you've been wired $30,000 by someone who did not ask to verify who you are?

by the way, the pic of the yellow 911 is now down from christian b larsen's facebook page. i'm getting gmail.com emails from the person representing themselves as mr larsen, but the facebook user will still not respond. none of this adds up.

I've never been asked for my DL either. I've bought multiple cars via the web and shipped many dollars. I'm worried for your indentification ,the scammer might just be gettin a sweet new credit card in your name. I hope not for you .

The State of Louisiana now requires a copy of the seller's drivers license when buying a used car. DMV won't issue a new title without it. From what I understand more states are starting to require this.

I sold a car two weeks ago to a dealer for a similar amount. After he received pictures of the car, the vin, and a copy of the title he mailed me a check. Once the check cleared I mailed him the title and a bill of sale. Two days later the car was picked up by the transport company of his choice. So yeah.

And I've currently got two cars paid for and not received that I didn't ask for a DL on. Its never been common practice. Its a recent developmentnwhere scammers are trying to create an added level of legitimacy to their ruse.

I just got a wire from Christian Larson for $11.5k for a 914 I sold on BaT

No Reserve: 1974 Porsche 914 2.0L | Bring a Trailer

The funds are in my account pending. I have not released the car yet until the funds are clear. I don't think he's a scammer.

I take it the sellers you wired money to were not from Africa or named John Doe ?

Point being, the DL is just a way to verify identity. I assume you did so by other means.

well matt, mr larsen said his bank asked for my drivers license so i was just being cooperative. at the time it seemed like a reasonable request considering he was about to wire 30 grand to a stranger in another country. i got concerned when mr larsen stopped communicating with me. i gave mr larsen lots of ways to confirm i was real, but mr larsen just chose to ignore me after he had all my identity and banking info.
