How much should i sell a 1976 targa for
1976 911s targa, 5 speed, it has a 1978 sc 3.0 motor in it for the last 20 years, interior is good, no rust at all on the body but the white paint needs to be redone, and one small dent fixed, this car has been driven regularly for the past 14 years and has 175k miles on it. It is truly a drivers car and has been very reliable and fun, i would say good overall condition.

It's probably $15-$25k. That's a wide range but with a bunch of pictures and more info, we can narrow that range more accurately.
I spent $25k on my 77 911S Coupe w/ 93k mi about a year ago. Needed info for your car: -rust under body; floors, pans at suspension mount? -cracked dash? -when was engine rebuilt? head studs? oil leaks? -was trans rebuilt? -maint receipts? -targa top seals? leaks? -is the body stock? aftermarket spoilers? slant nose? late-model wheels? -is the trim spray painted black? -sport seats? -original radio? Pictures will answer most of my questions.

Id buy that 911 all day long for $15,000- good luck finding a running driving porsche for $15k. Anymore it seems if the car runs/drives/stops it's $20,000-even if it's a mid year.

If the answers to Thamlin's questions are the right ones, I agree with low 20s to 25k.

But if it is a good running/driving aircooled 911 with floor/pan rust, pulled head studs, fiberglass fenders/spoilers, replica 17" cup wheels, black spray painted bright work and red gauge faces and it still runs and drives good as a daily driver....it's $15k. I hope that isn't this car but you never know from the description. Pic will help determine.

There should be some rule on this board that when someone asks a questions like this, that they have to post photos. Any kind of speculating as to what is worth what without some kind of point of reference seems crazy. Photos should be a number one priority if you want people to take it seriously. There is a huge difference between a #3 car and a #2 car and a huge difference for what people think is a driver, etc.

I sold a similar 77 Targa with good paint last summer. It took about two months to sell and I received a couple of offers in the very high 20's.

i have a chance to buy this car from a friend of mine who's had it for the last 14 years, for around 16k, I was thinking the non original motor would hurt its value but no one mentioned that as a major value killer. to answer some questions, no fender flares or wings, just a stock narrow body, with 15x6 fuchs, many receipts , after market stereo , no cracked dash , original seats. i was thinking about buying it painting it and reselling it.

The 3.0 engine can be seen as a good thing. The orig 2.7 had their own issues so a lot of people swapped out for the 3.0. Does he still have the original 2.7? How bad is the paint? Do you have any pics you could post of it? That would answer so many questions in a hurry.

Buy it and drive it. Or buy it and sell it for a bit of profit. But painting it likely won't work out to your benefit financially.

Drive it but if you are going to sell it don't put any money into it. You won't get it back. Just give it a nice detail/polish. I say it's worth in the low $20k range from your description.
This 80 SC Targa just sold for $24k for reference. I don't see a non matching # mid year Targa driver fetching much more. GLWS 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa | Bring a Trailer |
