996TT advice

Hi guys,

One of my friends wrecked his 928GT (he could not handle the power) so now he wants a tt. Go figure!

What MY would be the best? Any problems IMS wise? Is high milage a problem? Lifespan of turbos?

I dont really know much about these water boilers so any advice would be appreciated.

Christian

My two cents:

Some say 2002+ is better than 2001. Neverending dispute over whether chassis rigidity increased with 02 model year. Plus 01 didnt have a glove box.

A few common issues to look out for. 2nd gear popout, coolant expansion tank, rear spoiler, slave cylinder. Your best resource would be the 996tt forum on rennlist.

IMS not an issue on turbos, it was a different type of engine.

High mileage brings deep discount to prices. Imho might not be a bad thing if there's a solid maintenance trail. There was an article on Panorama about a couple who did 600k miles on a 996tt.

Listen to Rick. He owns one, recently bought it and is a true professional, OCD tire kicker.

I should be billing Rick for consulting fees...

Christian,
Long time no see. Welcome back poppa. How's the kid?

The others covered it. Great cars. Maintenance over mileage. Make sure the gearbox and slave are good. Drive them like you stole it.

The awd will help a yahoo driver who can't manage a high power rwd car. He didn't wreck your old 928 did he?

Thanks a lot guys. Appreciate it!

Rick, will pass the info on to Mads.

Matt, yeah I am still here buddy - but you know how the life of a family guy is - its a charmed busy life, much like Ronnies really. Just upside down.

Hope all is well in CO - sending good vibes from CPH.

I am almost Porscheless for the first time in 25 years. Just not the time money or space wise right now.

I have bought an yz 250 from 92 from when I was a hot teen MX rider. Will convert it to an Ama Bradshaw replica. Will be a fun project.

Got a little straighter when he sold that 912.

^^^

No doubt; 912 ownership is a definite "bent" indicator (just shy of a lisp & swish)! Take MattR for example!!!

Don't confuse a 912swb owner with a 912e guy. The first is just well dressed and sensitive.

No confusion here - both are lisp and swish worthy! BUTT perhaps the latter owns it more pridefully?!?!?!?!

"Honey, is the speedometer broken"?!?!?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Guys, stepping it up a notch, huh!? Nice!

What does Ronnie and an ambulance have in common? They both get loaded from the rear and go whoo-whoo!

Matt, I feel you still have some issues handling the disapointment over your trip to London? Most people our age know that Big Ben is a clock. Get over it man!

By the way, MattR's pretty moustache is not a fashion hipster statement - it is there to hide the stretch marks.
