I am sick of sellers pushing us to eBay

I for one am tired of having to see what a car or part "costs" on eBay.
The Marketplace is not a listing service for eBay.
The Marketplace is for listing items for Sale to Pelican members...with a LISTED price.

The most offensive is the super nice guys (brothers) from UnObtanium.

I have never seen them sell a car with a price.
All I have seen is them use Pelican to Advertise their eBay Auctions and drive up the price (their profit margins).

Here is the latest:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/904615-1970-porsche-911e-targa-project.html

We should reject these solicitations that drive Pelican Members to Go Bid at eBay.
Join in and reject the eBay listings. No price, no Listing!

He's saying that you are a cranky old man in addition to being little.

I personally agree with you. I don't care if it's an Ebay listing or not. I don't like when businesses push their parts and cars here. It's bad form. This is Wayne's house. He provides this forum free of charge in an era when so many charge a fee to both members and sponsors. I get really tired of seeing half the cars for sale in the classifieds being from dealers. I have long felt that used car dealers should have to pay a membership fee and disclose that they are dealers. It's pretty obvious with most of them even if they act like an individual.

I would love a place where legit private sales happen between individuals. Man - the interweb has killed almost all deals. No longer will someone sell a car or guitar or bike for a price that would make them happy - even if it's double what they paid - it's "let's google the going rate" and then the 'price average' includes the dealers inflated askings. Ughhh.
Oh well. Pandora was let out of the bottle.

I agree. I hate the ads in the classifieds that have no price but have a link to ebay. Aren't the PP cars for sale rules that you have to list a price?

For sale on ebay

Hi,I find it ironic.I have posted a number of inquiries about rare parts or cars and have had no response other than 3 or 4 responses. My new one is I have a half doze n brand new 917 gearsets. They are cool. All are water drilled around the bearing surface.I also have a 5th gear from the Talledega speed run when Mark Donuhue for ran 240 MPH and the surface of the bearing shows a lack of lubrication for 1500 H.P.Actually probably more because these were kids having fun.I am back in my shop in April.I will post a picture then.Ok how much is that 5th gear worth.Hopefully more than 3 or 4 responses. Thanks Fred Apgar For those who have dogs my Doberman was 7 yesterday. Her NAME is Cayenne.

Ahhhh.
I get the "get off my lawn". Funny. I have tried to change my user name to cranky or grumpy littleoldman - but I can't.

But it is more accurate to my real inner self.

I don't mean to sound like a grumpy old man but I agree. If you want to sell on eBay then sell on eBay. The market place here has different rules, and they're in place for a reason.

State your price and location.

End of story.

The world would be a better place without used car dealers, real estate agents and attorneys.

There is no issue with having it on eBay too. If you're going to use the free service here then just follow the rules and list a price and location with a link to your ebay listing.

Fred,
I think lack of response on something like that is people just don't know. I haven't bought or sold a 917 gearset in more them half a dozen years and gears are my business. In my experience talking to Freisinger is one of the best ways to determine value and he's a real buyer. For sure what he offers is 15-20% below retail.

How can you prove provenance on the Donahue gear?

The concept and spirit of an enthusiast classified page is to promote our (now grotesquely expensive) hobby.
A great deal between two end users has become a flipper's dream.
I agree that I don't want to miss finding a rare part I need, but am disappointed in the loss of "community".
End rant.
