Would you ruin the value of this 912?

I've recently read a few post on the values of 912's with non-matching numbers, running vs not running, engine rebuilds and so on. This brings me to this question? With the price of rebuilding a 616 engine in the 10K to 30k price range, yes 30K, check out Benton or Willhoit. (Not a knock on them, they build beautiful engines) For that kind of money I could convert to a six and take the hit on originality and value, or is it sacrilegious to de-value a pretty nice 912 to do a pseudo outlaw conversion. Am I crazy? I know there is a lot of work involved in the swap.

Ummmm nice car , if you 911 it you need to cut holes for oil tank etc

How about a much cheaper big Type 4 motor ?
or a VW motor

and put the original in the corner.......

Yes put the original in the corner is key. You don't destroy any value that way.

Too nice to hack....store the motor and get some VW power as the others stated...

912s are starting to come into their own...

No need to change engines if you want to more than double yer 912's horsepower and torque output; simply add one of these, instead (drive chain extra)!!!

Thanks Matt. I agree 912's are starting to get collectible.
I have been on the 912bbs for three years and have looked into Jake Raby and Fat type 4's in the renegade section. Nice alternatives.
I guess this obsession has been re-sparked since the All Porsche Swap and Car Display and Lit show in So Cal last week. We had several Porsche related open house's and events. I saw just about every swap possible that weekend, V8, Subaru, Type 4, Polo etc... Except for the Polo nothing really looked or sounded as good as the guy who I spoke with that swapped in a 3.0 SC with webers.

Ha! I never tire of slinging shart at you 912 guys (just ask Matt R., Christian, Matt M., etc,)! One of these days, I expect to find my rear booster's tires slashed . . . or some turds on the driver's seat!

PS - I've had my share of slow cars/bikes, and the ole "better to go fast in a slow car" is a bunch of malarkey spewed out by slow car owners!!!

Jeff, you edited your post, so now my "slow car" commentary seems random - not cool, bub - ha ha!

LOL Ok this has gotten off track.

Back to the lecture at hand. I guess it's no surprise that a 912"s value and collectibility are at the point where it doesn't make sense to do a 6 cylinder conversion? But for some reason I'm still intrigued. Maybe I should find a not so original candidate to customize.
