And it's not even a low mileage garage queen.

That's good.

I spent the fall looking for an 87 to 89 both in Canada and the States. I found a few candidates but wound up stepping on the sidelines only to find via word of mouth a local 89 here in Vancouver. People keep saying how common these cars are but I did not find that to be the case. In the end I found a slate grey on black, no spoilers coupe, which you would think could be found all over the place but that's not what I experienced. Congrats to both buyer and seller, even I find it hard to believe these cars are considered "unicorns" to a certain degree and having been driving mine all the time.

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.

Agree 100%. There may be many cars but few and fewer good ones.

Well if that car can hit $51,000 I'm almost certainly going to sell mine this spring.

Worth noting that this car is in Toronto, Canada... lots of pundits were saying that this would cause a significant hit to value but that obviously wasn't the case...

Unless bidders thought they were bidding in Canadian dollars
;-)

Cheers

I thought it was possible the Canada import thing could be a dampener -- I've seen it on other cars.

The difference on this one was an engaged owner who had the answers -- including the bill of sale from the previous owner, proving US origin and no need for import duties.

The import thing becomes an issue on cars with no US history or where the owner is uncertain of what to do, and prospective buyers are left to ponder.

This car had six active bidders over $40k -- that much action makes for impressive auction prices. It was very well sold.
