Did Porsche build widebody 911SC ?
I am looking at a 1980 911SC with very low miles and turbo flared arches all around.
They are done to a very high level with the nice clean bead on the back side as some turbos I have. Don't know if this was an available option or maybe some kind of special wishes work. I haven't seen the COA yet so maybe it will show some info. Mods are similar to the M491 option on the Carrera 3.2. Could just be a high level aftermarket job but car is very low miles. thank you |

Unless it's a single owner car, I'd take mileage with a pinch of salt. Does it still have the 85mph speedo?

That was not an option. The wide body non turbo M491 option wasn't available until 1984.

Not a blue car.
This car is not advertised anywhere. Chassis is definitely low miles. After getting to inspect closer I can see it is not factory but flares are done to the highest level. The engine is built to a 3.2 short stroke with 46mm webers and twin plug. It does have larger brakes and factory 9&11 wheels. I think I will buy it in spite of all the mods. |

It may very well be a factory wide body. A local collector here in my area has a '78 SC coupe ordered new via the 'sonnenwischen' (special wishes) program, wide body turbo look along with paint to order (a very nice ice green metallic), and BBS wheels. I haven't seen the factory documentation, but he tells me he has it all proving so........he calls it the car's 'birth certificate'. It's important to note that these were not options back then (i.e., pay your bucks and automatically get what you want), but were simply special _requests_ (wishes) that the factory either agreed to do or not, depending on resources available at the time plus other factors we may never know about. However, I would guess that someone who previously special ordered 4-5 cars over say a 15-20 year period just might get special consideration. One factor affecting approval could have very well been the fact that the factory was looking to sell their fairly recently introduced 930 Turbos, not ones that just looked like Turbos. However, to counter the blossoming aftermarket wide body parts offerings at that time, yes, the factory started offering in 1984 the M491 option.......pay the 10 grand extra and you got a wide body, make believe Turbo, no problem.
I'd jump on this one, as it may very well be one of those rare birds.

Odds are its not a factory car. On the other hand, from the little you've mentioned here it sounds like a car worth considering if you're not looking for a stock OEM car.
9 and 11 wheels would not be "factory" other than on some specific non road cars, (factory race cars)

1981 is the first year of the special wishes slantnose widebody options. However it was super expensive. It is also unusual to see one that got the rear flares but didn't get the slantnose. My gutt says this is not a factory built car. Though back in the late 80s a lot of cars were converted to a very high standard. This looks like a nice car.
Spend the couple hundred bucks and get a COA. It will end any questions about it, but I think you bought a hot rod, not a factory build.

The boxed rockers do not look to be a factory item as they lack the rubber plug for the jack points.

It's really well done but I doubt it's factory because they didn't upgrade the brakes
The wheels are real and dated in 74 |
