Ok...wait...wha?...huh?...WTF? $100K middies?

Granted this is Australia, but even with the exchange rate difference you are talking $100k USD for the '75 Sporto mentioned here.

Where the hell are you buying your Aussies? I'm still paying 75 cents.

Historically the tariffs have lifted Aussie car prices well above and beyond what we would expect. They also only have 10-15% as many cars as we do, so supply and demand also tacks on another bump beyond the import taxes.

$150k in Aussie dollars is $112k USD using your .75 cent ratio. Regardless, anything north of 35k USD for anything other than a near mint middy seems crazy to me. Hell, good G50 driver coupes still trade in the low to mid 40's.

Tell you what, once I do the bearings in my R front, so the car is safe to drive, I'll sell you my '75 for $45k and you can laugh all the way to the bank. ;-)

I'll make the same comparison I often make to the early market. To do rust repair, paint, or restore the interior on a 912 costs the same as a 911. Rebuilding a gearbox costs the same. Caring for them costs about the same. So why shouldn't they be close in value to each other?

Same with a middie versus an SC or Carrera. Is a $112k 75 911 normal Sporto nuts? Sure. But the day of six figure middies is coming. Better be a car that can win preservation class at a concours, but they are coming.
