Collectible Classic - Targa?

Is the 1978-1983 Porsche 911SC Targa the Last Affordable 911 Model? - Rennlist

Collectible Classic: 1978-1983 Porsche 911SC Targa

Recent April 7- discussion of 911sc TARGA as a collectible classic. The actual article referenced does not limit itself to the Targa though.(Surprise)

Personally I think that open air 911s will eventually pass the almighty coupe.
I actually prefer them, at least the targa.
Early cars up to the 79 Sc with the bright trim look awesome.

I always get shouted down when I say that targas are equal in value, if not more, than coupes. When you sell them on Porsche enthusiast sites they don't bring as much. When you put them on the open market they bring more money. Bruce Anderson valued them higher for many years. If you can sneak out from a guy at 10-15% below coupe value go for it. Like BK911 says, the day is coming when everyone figures this out.

I hope so.

A no-tail SC/Carrera coupe is my aesthetic ideal, but you can't look at the car while you're driving it. I spent hours in my Targa yesterday, and dang, do I love it.

Targa

I have a Weissach coupe and a Targa. Among the two, no better feeling in the world than driving the Targa with the top off. However, the Weissach does look faster on and off track.

If they would have only made the Targa top curve the same way the coupe top curves. Like the 2016 Targa top does. Then it would look correct.

Targas only look good with the top removed. Thats how they were meant to be driven. The top is just an umbrella.

I think the factory screwed up when they neared it a 911 Targa. To me it is a different model.
When viewed through that lens the new comparison is "which targa do you like better, the 914 targa or the 911 targa?" or "which targa will be worth more?"

I think the 911 Targa looks great, I'm still undecided on the 914 targa.

my first 911 was a Euro Targa in Rosewood. Man I loved that car. I was so excited when I drove it home from the seller , I was slapping the dash board!
It was terrific with the top off.
When I found my non- sunroof coupe a few years later, I fell in love with the look. The slick top is so smooth and racy..

I think the 914 is so ugly it looks cool.
Many 911s and 356s have passed through my garage, but the 914 is still there.

Targas look far better with a ducktail. And chrome headlight rings and lacquered targa bar helps. GO FOR BAROQUE!!

hate is a strong word. Bet you'd take a Targa if you got a deal.

Facts:
-Targas are less rigid than coupes
-Targas have interrupted body lines compared to coupes
-Targas are more prone to leaks than coupes
-Targas have more air drag than coupes

Despite the above facts, nothing beats the open road with the targa top off on a nice day. You can hear the sound of the engine better and I like the open roof without too much air flow in the cabin like in a true convertible.

Personally, I rather just own both a targa and a coupe. A targa for most driving and a coupe for the track and pictures.

You're right. I shouldn't use the 'h' word.
I had a Targa. I got a deal. I didn't like it.
I like my Cab though.
