It was also mentioned that the car had accidentally been left out in the rain with the targa top off on a couple of occasions.

The above "couple of occasions" statement is just a bit nebulous: is that a couple of ten minute Edmonton Summer showers or a couple Victoria Winters? I've lived for long stretches in Oregon, Hawaii, southern California, south Louisiana and eastern Colorado, and about a half-year in central California. Notwithstanding the extreme salt air climate of the Windward coast of Oahu, it's unlikely that any of these climates will do to a car what's depicted in your images in just two years and a couple of occasions of leaving the Targa top off in the rain.

So long as you understand that it'll probably cost you more to reclaim this car than it would to buy one someone's already done, and providing you consider your hundreds upon hundreds of hours of labor as garage-therapy time, you should be fine.

Have fun!

I tend to agree that the level of work required to bring this car up to my standards would be substantial. I tend to be very pick with my cars so there is likely nothing I would want to clean/fix/replace which would quickly become cost prohibitive even though most of the labor would be done my me.

Probably not at $10k, but even at your $15k number, yes. Too many rough but less rough $25k cars out there.

I agree but if he can squeeze the price under $10,000, this car does have potential.

Mike_72 05-13-2016 08:17 AM

I would probably be comfortable at 15,000$ CDN.

I was upset to note all the tiny clear coat bubbles in the paint. A big bonus for me was the fact that it was original paint. I am not a paint expect but I would imaging there is no way these can removed without extensive sanding and at minimum re spraying clear.

My GR 85 had that issue and when I had it looked at it wasn't really going to be any less expensive to fix it versus giving it a proper respray. Though the bid I got was not windows out.

Is it easy to find new windshields for these cars?

NYNick 05-16-2016 05:48 AM

A $15K CAN air cooled?
My, my, my. I"m surprised it hasn't sold yet to a DIY'er.

Asking 23K Canadian

Mike_72 05-17-2016 05:57 AM

What would it cost for all new seals, rebuilt targa top, new windshield, re-cover seats, new carpet and re-paint in original colour?

Matt Monson 05-17-2016 06:24 AM

North of $20k.

That's what I was thinking, so the car would have to be bought at a pretty low price to justify the inevitable expenditures it would need to prevent myself from being upside down.

Mike_72 05-17-2016 07:12 AM

And I can't forget all the mechanical work which is required...

Clutch, brakes, tune up, fluid changes, spring plate bushings are shot so others likely are too, tires.....Etc....
