Well I'm trying my hand at BAT! 1974 Carrera historic race car.

So I've always wanted to try BAT, I do find they are all over the place re prices etc... I know it is a hot spot here. It seems like a soft time to sell, obviously time of year hurts. Wildfires in Cali the last few weeks puts a large group of buyers worrying about more important things.

My car going up later today is Ralph Meaney's 1974 Carrera that he raced SCCA from new. I recently raced it at Rennsport with myself and Kevin Estre driving (Kevin won Le Mans this year) I finished the car just in time for Rennsport , when I say just in time I mean it, the transport truck showed up with hours to spare. I purchased the car in 2015 or 16, I can't fully remember. Matt might as he was one of the interested parties at the time.

Long story short car was a blast, Raced in Group 4 at Rennsport had a few shake down issues but not bad for a car that had not raced in 25 years!! It was a busy week for me as I was racing this car and my 71 ST, running two cars in this event was a lot of work
but worth it.

I'm curious how the auction goes, I set the reserve low , basically covering my costs.
I hope to see this car running at events next season! It's one of those cars that has race history and is eligible for any event.

Cheers
John

Looks like a great build and super fun- just saw it listed. You’ll likely get lots of queries on making it road legal. Silly, but if it’s possible you’ve greatly expanded the buyer pool.

I really didn't get into this one as a for profit car. I really wanted it for Rennsport. I was pretty sure it would be accepted and when it was it made it well worth the effort.

Just a very cool car. History seeps from it.
Just like Clarkson's fake E type i yearn to have it.

I should have never passed on that car. I had FRoR on it and decided to pass so that Ralph could make a few more bucks on it because it was so insanely underpriced at their asking price. Ralph was a gentleman and was going to honor the ask, even though I told him is was way too cheap.

It just wasn't in the cards at the time. I was already knee deep in my gulf blue project and didn't have it in my to juggle all that would have needed to happen to get the car and keep peace in the home.

It's hard to place a value on a car like this. It was a street car and not factory built. It was raced by someone who mattered, but not in anything particularly important. It's best asset really is it's logbook.

It was a lot of work to get it to this stage but it was worth it once we got it on track.
It raced up and down the east coast as well as some solid events on the west coast.
One being the 6 hours of Portland in 1981 TransAm event. I currently have 2 of the 3 log books
which I was able to get by going to Rennsport. One of the spectators (who worked on the car with Ralph) told me he had them and a deal was struck!!
In general this car was a club racer that ran a few main events but more importantly had a special driver. Car was well kept but when I got it is was basically a roller with a large parts bin.

you can see most of the details on my facebook page

Yeah, that car was in need of a full race-storation. If I had bought it, I actually would have taken it back to the street as a hot rod. If anyone thinks this is some sort of for profit flip they're tripping. That car needed a ton of work to be nice again, and it looks like it got it.

Cheers Matt, just hoping this car goes to someone that keeps it in the public. Car shows fine but racing it would be ideal!

Just have to say you did a really great job of getting it done and an equally great job of showcasing it at a cool event.

What a great adventure to say you did it. Nice to move on as well though. Who knows what's next.

Thanks , I appreciate it. It was a great adventure as it was my first time to Laguna and my first Rennsport. I have to admit it was a bit overwhelming. The amount of amazing cars was hard to comprehend. Each car would be a star car at a typical vintage event. Here they are everywhere you turned it was jaw dropping. My favorite time was the evening when I could stay to "work" on the car. The paddock was empty and I could walk and take in all the cars quietly. I spent a good hour on my stomach looking at the Kremer ST along with a bunch of other Historic cars. The day/night before the racing started was my calm before the storm. That day alone was worth the price of admission.

Tru Dat. Thursday I didn't even get out of my booth it was so crazy. So when we got there at 7am on Friday I went straight to the paddock. The plan was to spend an hour there. 2 and a half hours later I looked at my watch, and all the people wandering around, and the cars firing up for the day, and realized that I was "late for work". I too got on my knees more than once.

I even saw your car there, but thought Porsport had bought it. I didn't realize it was yours or I would have asked around to get to meet you.

If you don’t pray at the altar of Ferry you are no Porsche person.

Very true Matt, some of the spectators thought I was nuts rolling around in the tented area looking at suspension bits and chassis bracing. Just saying it gets me excited..lol

Ya I bought the car from Don while it was on transport to him. I needed that car. I ended up racing that car and my 911S . When both got accepted it was like trying to choose which kid goes to Harvard. Only difference is you don't sell a kid after they graduate. 😁

My altar is to Komenda. If you guys don't know, he's the one on the left. I don't know who that dude on the right is.
