Hot rod Cayman Q
I have been asked to sell a 2007 Cayman, modified with 3.6 engine, GT3 seats, CF rear spoiler and 20" Boxster Spyder wheels. Silver with black interior. Built by a highly reputable shop...
But it has a salvage title. Great street car; great track toy. Needless to say, there are no "comps" for such a car... Looking to establish an asking price...

I would go with the standard approach that mods add no value and the S title hits it for 20-30%. Owner won't like that, but it is the market. Hot rod gen 1 Caymans with clean titles are a dime a dozen and they only ever get an engine modified like that if they blew up their first engine.

It's not a track toy yet. Will need the following to be a good HPDE car:
PSS10's (or 9's for the frugal) GT3 LCA/Dogbones Accusump (assuming Cayman engine) 18" wheels I'd check with HRG or Vision on as is value; I'd bet between the two shops they build a car via that spec once a week. For value, I'd say race car donor around $17-18k, wait for the kid that wants a go-fast P-car around $23-24k |

I'm a 58 year old "kid" who's been running formula cars for decades and debating a track Cayman. $17-18K would perk my interest, but not $23K. Maybe that helps with "value" question.

Im in the same ballpark. I would be interested in the high teens, maybe at 20 or so. Any higher and I would be out. Post the link or send details when you get it listed

Interesting. We are only talking about a few thousand dollars difference on a modern chassis that is wonderful to drive.I hope we are not becoming PC Porsche Correct in an election year.Good motor & seats a mid engined chassis. What could be more fun.Can you build a 914-6 for less?Ciao Fred

With many Caymans available that aren't branded Salvage it could mean an even steeper discount than what was talked about here. For me Salvage doesn't necessarily matter at all - if I get I great, not good, deal. A great deal would probably be a bit less than $15k. That car seems to have a lot of stories for a car that's only 9 years old, with the engine and salvage and all...just my two cents.

I think salvage matters a lot less on a hot rod. This car is already not for the feint of heart and it's likely that the new owner will do more work on it.

In 2016 it is important to remember money is only paper. In the near future maybe not even paper. Then where does that leave your asset.Fred

True, maybe. When selling race cars for example, new tubs or chassis that have no accidents will fetch more than one than has been prepared. If this is going to be a track car or hot rod, similar rules apply. There must be a considerable discount for someone to buy this over something else as that potential buyer knows that the resell will be way less should he ever get rid of it down the road.

Take a look over on RL if you want to see suped up Caymans. There's cars with $20-30k in performance improvements on them that are track rats.
