We are starting to see early 3.0 and 3.3 cars close the gap. I'm not sure the early 3.0 is worth that much more than the early 3.3 when I say early 3.3 that is the years 1978, 1979, they seem to sell at similar figures with the 3.0s selling only 10% to 15% more than a 1978, 1979 930 in similar condition.

Russo and Steele contacted me a month or so ago about getting my 79 for the August Monterey Auction. I said let's wait and see how the 79 does in Long Beach (man that car was heavily promoted) and how many 78-79s you try to get in for the Monterey auction.

Sorry, I'm not drinking the Kool aid. That is a disgusting color. Had a truck that same color for 10 years. Everybody made fun of me. It got called school bus yellow frequently. I find it odd that every time a Porsche is painted in some strange color everybody thinks that it's the best color ever produced. Seriously, puke color, crap color, totally sweet, wtf?

Agreed - really weird how in the vintage Porsche circles, flesh tones, and the various colors associated with excretory functions, have become "desirable"!

I've seen the same color on a 1979 911 SC in person - awesome color!

There are a lot of haters of the 1970s Porsche colors which explains why so many were repainted red (including the car in discussion).

Porsche liked the color so much they painted a 1980 930 the same color and included it in an advertisement.

Yellow and brown was used on the 78 sales brochure. Personally have 3 yellow 79s along with other unusual color ones ( Voitureltd.com ) and regular red and silver ones. Love them all!!!. I also like a Ferrari in yellow.

Lots of real buyers around Monterey that week. I'd check out all the auction companies including the "original " Rick Cole's. He has a different approach to bidding with his recently renewed interest in auctioning of important cars, along with a great history and location.

Calling that car just yellow isn't correct though. That is a dark yellow bordering on what some people call orange. Probably be more accurate to call it yellow- orange I'd take a lighter yellow or a solid orange before I take that color. I used to argue with people over the color of my truck. It got called a pumpkin many times and I would argue that it was more yellow than Orange. It was a losing argument for me because either way it was an ugly color.
The part that shocks me about this 930 is that it was a paint to sample color. The buyer of that car could have picked any color on the planet and picks that for his 930. So yes the color is rare. It's rare because very few other people would have ordered that on their car.

I like well modded cars more than many, but these cars are seemingly available routinely in the 80k range

Well it seems R & S found another person that liked that color. Advantage of selling a rare color is that if someone really likes it they may not get a chance to buy another one, unlike silver / red etc.

A nicely restored PTS 79 930, a Porsche Parade trophy recipient, well modded also to include all the original parts ?? It hits all the right buttons. A dream to offer at auction

If it didn't sell for that price its really hard to put any credence to the bid. Now a days it seems like there is a lot of shill bidding to drive up the price then it falls off before the reserve. I like the color, it probably really looks good in the bright sunlight.
