Low Mile 1997 Boxster
My girlfriend is getting tired of sitting in the passenger and is interested in getting an older Boxster. The opportunity has come up to get a 1997 Boxster with just under 30k miles, manual transmission, decent records/service history, appears to be in good shape with a clean carfax; priced around $8k. I'm not as familiar Boxster issues or prices as with 911s. This seem like good first pcar for her?

That's an excellent price. Often cars with 80-100k more miles are offered at that same price. I love mine. It's a base '99 with a bunch of to order items that I paid more than that to get into. Mine has 75k with 25k on a warranty replacement engine.
You can find them for $5-6k but they've been flogged. Location matters with respect to price. They are all over CA for cheap. Here they are more rare. I actually bought mine from a Pelican out east.

If the oil and coolant are clean, it runs well with no strange noises, suspension issues, or check engine lights, buy it.
