Torturing myself with old Classifieds!!
I found 2 old Excellence mags from 2002
there was one of the first 100 made 73 Carrera RS for 75k and another later serial # for 87k Another on ebay failed to sell for 53k that year. Was described as a bit scruffy on a Pelican thread. Who among us wouldn't pay $53k plus inflation for that scruff now. Oh why do I torture myself thusly and PLEASE POST ANY OLD CLASSIFIEDS THAT WOULD MAKE ME SICK I am a masochist. The time machine fantasy runs rampant in my head a 1967S for 16,700 also caught my eye - it had been restored and if you remember in 2002 restorations were worth nothing cause they weren't 'original' Anyone want $16,700 for a restored 67S - I got a cheque waiting! I know time passes but in 2002 gas in toronto was 67 cents a Litre and now it's a buck -- increase of 1.5. Which makes some of the 993 and 964 and 3.2 prices not crazy even with the new market. I mean Weissach in vancouver had an 85 in good nick for 58k CDN last year. divide by 1.5 and you have 38k which is exactly what my mint 87 cost at same shop in 2003. Just rambling now but man some cars' increases ........ Last edited by shaunmbenson; 08-18-2016 at 06:32 PM.. |

I've sold or passed on enough cars for price pain. I don't need to look at old ads to suffer even though I have 30 year old issues of many mags.

I guess it's torture if you had the money then to buy but didn't.. I graduated high school in 2002 so a 73rs at 75k doesn't irk me. It's impressive the appreciation in value on those though!
I couldn't afford a 75k 73rs today! ![]()

Problem is, there must be so many cars TODAY that we're not paying attention to, that will be taking off tomorrow. We just don't realize it.

I remember a conversation with an old college buddy 12-13 yrs ago. What would you rather buy for $85k? A new 996 or a 73 911 Carrera RS?
Wish I had $85k back then. No question that I won that debate!

I guess I could have bought the RS then and that's half the fun -- the oh man! factor.
In reality I bought a lot of track time, lap dances, drugs, guinness and Jaeger, trips around the world and won and lost at life many times since. I was in my 20s and exploring!! These days I like to chill. I like knowing when I'm getting up tomorrow and generally I like simplicity and this 911 I have now is the first one I've owned that's in better shape then when I bought it - not worse. So now I'm at a station in life where I could care for something old and in need of good stewardship. I guess it's better I didn't start with a scruffy RS then cause I'd have passed it off to someone as a burnt out shell or something like that! And yeah - there is definitely a car out there most of us could afford that will be the big money winner in 15 years but if it's not on my list it's not on my list. Also when I say I could afford 75k in 2002 - being able to afford is very different than "being willing to spend the money on it" live and learn indeed |

But I am game. 7 years ago I ALMOST bought a 3.6 Turbo for 50K. 8 yeas ago I ALMOST bought a 959 for less than 100K. 20 years ago I ALMOST bought a 356 Speedster in Hamburg for 50K DM. Now I am Porscheless - but will get a 964 RS in Signalgrün when the prices fall come springtime! I figure I will be able to get a nice non track driven example for around 30-40K if pushingmyluck doesnt snap it up right from under my nose. |

In 1998 I sold my 1963 356 b in condition 3 for $9200. I bought it 10 years before that for $8000. Oh well. Dang.

Oh, didn't know you meant Euros. Still surprisingly cheap, though.
