Seats shipping
OK here's one for the brilliant minds of the Pelcanites. I found some seats for my 911 that I am interested in buying but the seller is not inclined to help with shipping them - pick up only
They are over 400 miles away and I just don't have the time for the road trip this time of year. Do you guys have any ideas as to how to get the seats shipped to my shop in light of these circumstances? I recently purchased a nice low miles 964 turbo and decided to keep it for a while and drive it a bit. Due to the crazy high prices the turbos are going for in today's market I decided to pull out the original seats, steering wheel shifter etc to preserve them in their current near pristine condition. I will drive the car lightly with seats etc that I will put in it for the duration. At the point I sell the car, I will have a low miles car with near new interior. I am concerned that if I drove it with the original interior it could be damaged or show the inevitable wear that lighter colored Porsche interiors show, I have owned Porsches for over 20 years but they all fell in the $20k "bang for the buck" category, 911sc/968/Boxster S/ Cayenne S. This car is a whole different animal for me and I want to enjoy the car but do what I can to preserve its current condition to maximize resale value. Is this plan nutty or make sense with today's pricing? |

I have a feeling the minimal amount of miles it sounds like you're going to put on it won't wear out the interior.

Ahh, the dilemma of buying a collector level vehicle. Nice problem to have. I'm with Skwerl, drive it and enjoy it should be your primary concern, preservation should be secondary. I like the analogy about not having too much sex with your girlfriend/wife so the next guy gets to enjoy the benefit...:-)

Send them Greyhound. There's also a service that will pick them up and take 'em to the bus station, though I don't know what it's called.
Greyhound does take awhile. Your seats will only go on a bus that hasn't been filled up with people. I got a hood shipped this way, $100 for 1,500 miles but it took a month.

As for shipping seats, in the past I have boxed them separately and sent via UPS Ground. I received free boxes from a discount furniture store and I believe shipping was under $150 for the set. It has been probably five or six years, yet worth looking into. The key is that they are in separate boxes so the dimensions don't inflate the price.
Good luck. |

Moving companies sell wardrobe boxes that perfectly take 2 911 seats, backrests tilted...
