Looking for an E coast restorer

Hi all,
More advice sought.
I am thinking of having my 71 911 E Targa restored and was looking for recommendations of someone on the East Coast that you would be happy with doing your own car.

Currently it is a tired, fun driver, with a strong, smokey T engine, miss matched interior, cracked dash, and paint that looks good but would benefit from attention.

I am of two minds;

1) A complete stem to stern total mechanical rebuild of all systems, including some modest performance upgrades . I would then take care of the interior cosmetics, seats, targa top rebuild, etc., and drive it that way until I decided to do some paint work.

2) A total restoration, also with performance mods

I am not after a show car, it's for driving, but that said, I would be very happy with an almost new 71 911.

I guess that there is a third option, Porsche themselves via their Classic Center. That I imagine would be very costly, does anyone have experience with that ?

I thank you all and look forward to you answers.

For paint/body I would speak to Pino Anguilli at Milan Auto Painters 973-778-3400 (well known in northern NJ PCA circles)

and Rennwerke Porsche Technicians in Elmsford, NY for mechanicals.

I'll be the 2nd to whole hardily recommend Pino Anguilli at Milan Auto Painters 973-778-3400. He's into the details... I mean all of them... and loves 911s. Youthfull, but paid a lot of attention to his Dad's mentoringing growing up.
Besides being one of the best, he's also about as down to earth as a guy can be.
Definitely get in touch with him. He's not great at returning calls, but makes up for it in the work he does. His sister is pretty good at getting back to folks.

Restorers/Mechanical Work

Try these folks up in my neck of the woods:
- Autosport Engineering, Stow MA (Porsche service repair Auto Sport Engineering - Stow, MA) - phone 1-800-356-914-6. Talk with Mark Cummings (his dad Len has been a frequent poster here, known for manufacturing fuel and brake lines.) They've been servicing and rebuilding Porsches for nearly 45 years.

- Exotech Po(wer, Plaistow NH (http://exotechpower.com/5601.html) - phone 603 382 3599, resealed the engine in my '74 911s. Mark is well known in the local Porsche community for his engine rebuilds. He's a great guy as well

- Series900, Sunapee, NH (603) 748-0787. damon [at] series900 [dot] com, restoration services w/Celette bench. Well known throughout the region for his work and another great guy. Can't recommend him highly enough.
