Tiptronic P car for girlfriend, 993, 996, 997?

I was going to pick up this 95' 993 Tip for my girlfriend. Then looking at 996's and some 997's, the prices seem close enough to get newer and nicer. Then there are the IMS bearing problems that are scarey. She just likes to have a go to work car, 20 miles a day. Should I stay with a 993, under $40K? Caymen's having the same problems.
Just asking........

tip in 964 and 993 is just AWFUL bad!!!! please stop it..

TIP in 996/997 tip is very very good will beat most manual shifters.
The new 991 PDK ... forget about it .. shifting is for the slow minded..

IMS is easy update..

You should get her a '09+ Cayman or Boxster.
No IMS, and all the power she can possibly use.
Do they come in Tip?

Just get her a BMW, she won't know the difference

I'll look into boxters. Her driver is a 328i already. She just wants something fun for going to work. They say the later 996's have better IMS bearings so I'll have to check that out.

996 turbo. Fast, fun, comfortable, excellent transmission, fast, bottomed out on depreciation curve (more like climbing up)
Best value in your price range IMO, and I think the only one with upside potential if that's a consideration..

964 or 993 Tips are fine for women and the elderly from texas. Nice shifting and should be very reliable. 996 or early 997 are not better imo. I would grab a 964 tip - but then again I am pretty old and dont like driving a manual 911 in city traffic.

This! If she'd like a cabrio, even better (cheaper). $40k will buy you a pretty nice specimen.

Do you like money?
Just buy her an auto Boxster for $5k.
It is all the car she possibly needs.

Can you do this faster in a manual 964 C2. I doubt it.

Teach her to shift, I sold my 2001 Boxster S 6 speed to my exgirlfriend and she loves it, Car is cheap, fun and dead on reliable. Life is too short to drive an automatic transmission Porsche

Then she might as well get a Miata or a MR2.

Looks like my car. With the hardtop on in the colder seasons it seals up just like it's a coupe. Love it.

It Is nice. The 996 and boxster look is growing on me. Is the gap between the bumper and hood right?

Looks like the latch might be open.

Any of the tip cars will serve her fun going-to-the-office purpose. She is just looking for something fun and sporty, so I would ask her what look she likes the best and go with that. Nobody else can tell you what is best for her because we know nothing about her. She may be able to handle a 996tt, but may prefer the look of a boxster, or even 968. Tons of options in many different body styles. They are all reliable, if cared for properly.
