Opinions on this 66' 912/2.2l

Used 1966 Porsche 912 Outlaw for Sale in Atlanta GA 30566 Dick Barbour Performance

Hey guys,
Long time lurker here. I've been searching for a 911 for quite some time and looked at this car a few times. I first drove it in July and I thought it was fantastic and the car looked great in person. I have a few concerns that I hoping you all can help me out on.

I'm thinking this car has been around a few times and PP knows this car!

Here are my concerns,
1. This is a 66' 912 which should be a SWB car. Looking at the location of the plugs in the rockers, could this have been converted to a LWB car?
2. The front fenders are converted SC fenders which don't look like the best fit, not sure if that's an easy fix or not.
3. Value of a 912 converted to a 2.2l cyl. Not wanting a numbers matching car but don't want an abomination either.
4. This car has been up for sale since July and the price has dropped from $55k down to $39.9k which tells me it's undesirable for maybe reasons that I'm not aware of.

I really loved driving this car, it's a ton of fun and is completely rust free and runs great. I would remove the black vinyl and add some spacers and call it a day.

Am I missing something? What do you guys think?

Left side ( driver side ) lens front and back seem to be off, maybe signs of body damage? Reallyt need to get you hands on it or at least a magnet.

The car was a ton of fun to drive! Do you think it has been converted to LWB?

Here's a key photo:

Notice the location of the wheel in the wheel well opening. That's a result of lwb quarters grafted to a swb chassis--the wheel is too far forward in the opening. IMO, it's still a swb chassis with lwb quarter, fenders, and other items grafted on. Hard to tell how much is metal or fiberglass, but much of the modification appears to be plastic.

Looks like it has LWB SC/Carrera rear flares, but I can't say for certain from any of the pictures whether the suspension has been converted. I think I see in a few of the pictures that the wheels may not be centered in the fender openings, but can't be certain.

That's what I was afraid of. I wasn't sure if it was converted or just a poor job on the quarters. Honestly I would rather have a narrow body/long hood.

Looks like a fun car, needs way more wheel in the back though. That color is tough, only certain people would like it. Guessing that has something to do with the price drop.

It hasn't been sitting because it's undesirable, it's been sitting because it's grossly overpriced and needs a metric ton of work to make right. Nearly every exterior shot shows a red flag.

Lack of originality aside, that green car is an atrocity, clearly committed by someone who does not know Porsches. $40k? Hilarious!

$55k is insulting.

If you do end up buying it for $25k or whatever, please remove that death trap rollbar so it doesn't murder you.

Always enjoy reading commentary on our cars. It's good to hear what the Pelican finest have to say and constructive opinions are welcomed. And a good laugh too

Not sure who the OP is, but just like him, everyone that came in to drive this little Kermit the Frog really liked it. So don't let the color and imperfection of the build fool you. This is a great running 912/6 with a really nice interior.

The car is on consignment and I do not dictate the price. However, we have had an enormous amount of interest! Yes comrades, this car has gotten more emails and phone calls than any other car that we have had in our inventory. Unfortunately, no one has pulled the trigger. Why? I don't know. But there really isn't anything surprising or hidden about the vehicle. What you see is what you get. And just like the OP said, it runs great. It has had lots of work done to it.

The car originally came with Fuchs, but the current owner switched those with the Magnus Walker wheels, plus added the wrap and wooden dash with wooden steering wheel. Rest of the roll bar is available but it's not plugged in. (Btw, the entire roll bar can be easily removed. It's bolted in)

The last thing I would like to add, is that we have had solid offers for the car for over $40k.. But the current owner at that time was not in any rush, and wanted to hold out for the full asking. So don't underestimate the market. After all, you are looking at one of a kind car and just because you wouldn't pay more than $25k, does not mean that everyone else wouldn't either.

Happy Halloween wk'end to all.
