What happened between may and now to cause prices to jump?

Apologies if this is not in the correct forum - just joined and poking around.
I am working on my 1973.5 T and waiting for the penetration oil to soak in on a nut.
In the mean time I checked out this forum and was reviewing the posts for the older cars and found the link to Hagerty and their price reports.
Price Guide Report

It appears that in May the cond 4 was approx 23k and now in sept is is up to 37k?

This seems like a big jump in a short time - is there a reason for this?

Thanks all.

Collectors and speculators. Driving prices higher and further out of reach for the actual enthusiast.

Cars seem to be dwindling in supply. If they are priced right they sell almost immediately. Many are not priced appropriately and you see them sit for some time. I think a correction is coming. We shall see? Tim

It would appear I had better hurry up and get my clutch cable fixed and possibly list it for sale.
(i don't have the funds to make it as nice as i would like, nor do i foresee having the funds in the future either).
Thanks for the replies folks.

I doesn't need to be a number "2" inorder to enjoy, keep working on it and drive it like you stole it!

Auctions and dealers certainly influence the markets but ultimately it is the buyers.
As much as we might look at the $35,000 SCs and think of the obsurdity it pales in comparison to Longhoods, RSs and Ss. A $35,000 SC is cheap in comparison to a $300,000 S or a $1,000,000 RS. A $150,000 car in 2005.

The overall national inflation rate is not over 60%, so your hypothesis is incorrect.

My thought is that if i keep driving it and enjoy it as is and something then goes horribly wrong - then i am left with a tub that might not be worth much vs. possibly selling it while there is still some value left in her.
While i am pretty handy around the house - i am finding that i might not be so handy with the mechanical nature that a 73 requires. From 10 feet away - she looks pretty good, however now that i have her up on the stands and able to see things a bit closer - i'm pretty sure that I won't be able to tackle it all.
As for the value - I might have to take it over to Auto Assoc and have them do a PPI to help ID what shape she is in. Thankfully they are very close.

Just prior to the clutch cable snapping - i was driving it more and certainly enjoying it more than in prior years.

Insure it. People drive $35,000 cars all the time, they just insure them.

I thought his garage was bigger and he could use a haircut.

I call your bluff. You are here to pump a sale. Well, good luck with it

I've been thinking of selling it for the past 4 years! My wife is tired of me always talking about it.

Every time i drive it i change my mind (I have to split time on the nice days between the car and the bike). The eye opener for me was being under it to see what everything looks like and knowing i can't do it nor can i afford to have it done.

I had posted about 2 years ago on the early 911s reg site - I was trying to get an idea of what it was worth then but then never followed up on it.
Right now she is up on jack stands in my garage - not her best side.

Known issues:
minor front end damage at some point - was fixed
suspension pan to be fixed (bonnet difficult to close)
was re-painted. Started as Viper Green, then somebody painted it red, and now it is white.
wrong seats
wrong mirrors
wrong dash pad
missing door pockets
wheels may not be originals

On the plus side - The vin#'s all match.

I will try to get some pics added.

What I love about this whole thing is my SC could take on an RS and smoke it on the street or on the track.

Go buy all the RS's you can get your hands on. I'll just keep driving my SC.

Thanks Christian. Just had it on a 1200 mile trip to Maine last weekend. Flawless.
Also had it at 5000 RPM's in 5th on the way to Lime Rock a week ago following my mechanics 67S with a 3.2. Speedo wasn't working that day. How fast is that?
Fast!
