Mecum Auctions selling a 75 RS?
This just popped up on the auction block.
https://www.mecum.com/lots/AN1116-273533/1975-porsche-carrera-rs/ To my knowledge Porsche never made a 75 RS. Is this correct? |

There was also a short run (113 coupes) of 1976 German-market Carrera's with the 2.7 MFI type 911/83 RS engine, plus 20 Targas for the Belgian police. There was an article about one of the coupes in the September Excellence magazine. That one has a whale tail and no badging.

See this site for more info on the Carrera 2.7 mfi cars: Carrera 2.7 MFI: Successor to the 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS Touring (M472)
Basically an impact bumper RS. They are interesting and rare cars. They are valuable, but cost a small fraction of what a 73 RS costs (for now). We've got a 74 mfi awaiting full restoration. |

Its a euro Carrera, not an RS. The ROW Carreras of 74 and 75 did however have the same engine as the 73 rs.

You would think that Mecum would have people working for them that were knowledgeable enough about the cars they sell that they would know what to call them.

The '76 Version of the Carrera 2.7 MFI was sold as RS in Germany and Switzerland at least. It even has a specific chassis number to denote it as a special car. Member Snodgrass (SP?) here has written a beautiful book about the Carrera 2.7 and its rarer '76 version.
mecum? good car but rubbish prose. |

I get sick every time I see one of these auctions on TV. It's totally ruined the used car market. Too bad that Porsches are now on their radar.
What did this car sell for BTW?

Obviously not but regardless of our collective high brow opinions of their business and description, describing it as a RS is a quick way to differentiate between a run of the mill Carrera and the RS engined cars.
