1974 Porsche 911 Targa Value
I have a 1974 Porsche 911 Targa that I am interested in selling and was wondering if this is a good place to get ideas as to what selling price point to start with. I included one picture of the car taken this fall. I can provide additional pictures.
Basic description is as follows: 1974 Porsche 911 Targa (Pearl White) - Car was originally light blue 4spd Sportomatic transmission 3.0L SC motor (Original motor was the 2.7L but now has the 3.0L) Fenders have been flared (Looks like the 911 Turbo. Fenders are metal) Interior and exterior are in good condition (No tears or dents) Motor runs well (starts easy and runs smooth) Transmission had syncro's replaced and shifts into all gears Car is 100% driveable Wheels have 911 Turbo rims Thanks in advance for any inputs! -Jay ![]() |

My estimate is $20 - $23k. Will make a fun car, but don't plan on a winfall. Target the first time Porsche owner, tough sell to an established enthusiast.

Hagerty has an average sales price of $26,900. The modifications will drop it in value. I suspect Cornerlot is pretty close to what you might expect.
He's probably correct that it will be tough sell. I would put it on Bring a Trailer and hope for the best BaT is the hot place right now for Porsches. Richard Newton 26 Years in a 911 |

Sorry for being blunt but the wheels alone will turn away the majority of potential buyers.

Not really. Would take 10 minutes to install Fuchs. The Sporto will be a much bigger stumbling block to the sale. Even though I like Sportos I think this car will struggle to clear 20k.

Most people I would assume would pay less knowing they are going to have to now source a set of Fuchs and then buy tires for them. It's s cool car but like most have said-it's going to cost the seller some coin because of the mods.

There is a 1974 911S targa in San Diego right now and seller wants 20k cash. Sent me some pics of it and video of it running. Seems all original zero rust. I'm not very interested in it and it's pretty far but that should shed some light on this. Let me know if you want some pics

There is a market for a pearlescent white Turbo-flared 74 Sportomatic Targa...
It is a small market. You will need to reach a lot of people to find the buyer. I suggest listing on eBay in the Spring with professional photos and letting the bids tell you the value. I suspect it may be under $20K.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I am totally on the same page with you all. My father gave me the car a few years back and I have worked to keep it running but just dont have the time or desire to do much more to it. The modifications definitely impact its value, but I am sure there are buyers looking for project cars and it could be a good starting point for the right person.
Thanks again for all of your inputs, and definitely feel free to add any more if you think of anything. |

Still here

You have an interesting car given the sportomatic.
The market might be small for it but the right buyer will be willing to pay a pretty penny if you can find one. If the car is as well sorted as it looks, I would be patient otherwise you will be taken to the cleaners by the "mods kill value" marketplace. |

A '74 white Targa with a Sporto is pretty dang cool I think.
Without: 1) Your wheels 2) The tail 3) The side ducts It'll be worth it to bring it back for sure, as I don't see a boatload of '74s around. A white Targa is also sweet, and stripped of the Miami Vice package it's a sound start. Everything is easily reversible except for the ducts, and a Porsche body guy could weld them shut. I don't remember when I saw a '74 Targa Sporto. I'd leave it Sporto. |

You can remove the slats on the rear intakes and it will give it less of a slantnose want-to-be look.

Yes, but Rick's comment about "turn away buyers" suggests they would just skip the car over wheels, the easiest thing in the world to replace.
