Rate my Ebay listing please. Thanks

Porsche 911 SC | eBay

I ran this listing for 7 days to get a feel of what I might expect. I have more in the car than my starting bid ask was. Had over 2500 views and 17 watchers. Zero bids at end. Got some emails and have 1 offer on the table but several grand less than Id like to see.

I tried to give an accurate description but maybe over did it?

Maybe my ask was a little high but I saw no reason to go with a reserve and then watch the car get bid up to 30K seeing as I have 50 in it. Whats the point in that?

Just set me straight on how to sell a nice car in the current market.
Tell me where I went wrong and what was good about the listing.
I know my photography's not great but for an iphone I thought not horrible.

Some of you market place regulars are sharp tacks with good advice...

Thanks, Scott

You'll never get a bid with such a crazy high opening. 17 watchers is not that many in a week. Get it on BAT (with pro photos) and let it rip if you actually want to sell it. Unfortunately just because you spent all that money on it does not mean you will get it back. Looks like a $40k car max. GLWTS

I think it's several thousand dollars overpriced, but that's just my opinion. I think on BAT you'd get 40k-ish for it.

Also did it come with a 85mph speedo, and if so, what happened to it?

I do have an offer for over 40K currently. I have supporting documentation as to the accuracy of the mileage on the car and the complete rebuilt motor has under 1000 miles on it.

No doubt its tough to get it back out of an SC but its only been out there for a week.

Maybe Id have better luck with a reserve auction with starting bid at 40K?

Really just wanted to weed out all the lowballers.

I see so many auctions with reserves not being met and bids no where near what the car would bring...

Aside from the price, my only advice would be fix the stupid stuff.

As soon as I see something admitted - the pegged gauge is a great example - I think what else can't the seller be bothered with, and what aren't they telling me.

If it's that small a job just fix it. If it isn't don't say it is...

I spent hours trying to figure out where the wiring to the gauge is shorted and just couldn't find it . I did spring for a new float in the tank and verified that its not the gauge. Read many a thread here on the pegged needle issue but in the end I got defeated. What can I say.

Then take it to a shop.
No shame in paying someone else if you try yourself first.

Yes I would like it fixed. It bothers me that I can build a flat six but not fix a bad wire

No way, thats a really nice car in a great color. I would hold out for 45k plus or keep it.

Thank you I appreciate that. I put a LOT of hard work into this car and 45K is exactly what I hoped to get for it after going through all my receipts and throwing out all the crap that one shouldn't expect to get back.

Well... I guess I should have started the bidding lower and did a BIN for 45K Lol

Yes in hindsight I see that now.

Ok I get the gist of it....

The high starting bid amount and that my marketing approach does suck.

And here I thought maybe the Euro spec P&C were off putting to some

These are my other 2 cars.

2 out of the 3 will be getting sold.

The Targa has studs done, Carrera tensioners, new clutch ,bought from original owner 111K miles, well sorted, good paint and interior and have docs dating back to day one in 78.

Have offers for $25 which is what I paid 2 years ago and then proceeded to dump money into. Have close to 35 in it now. I did nothing but make it better.

The cars in great shape and really scoots. Just looking for ballpark figures.

Ive been going back and forth on whether I should keep the 88 Carrera or the Blue car. This car has had little done to it because it hasn't needed anything. I bought it from an old retired couple that couldn't find any of the paper work and i finally gave up asking. The car has carfax records that verify the accuracy of the 62,000 miles. Very clean condition, nice color, and actually hauls ass. I wouldn't let it go for less than 45K.

Personally I place the value of the Blue SC and the Carrera equal so I really have a decision to make.

I wont feel too bad for plugging my cars here as it is a Porsche marketplace forum.

Im thinking it might be easier to sell the 88. Anyone agree?

Really!? I would take it and move on. Dont forget the fee you have to pay auctioning it away.

All three cars look nice. The Carrera is probably somewhere around 42.5 because of the lack of paperwork the targa around 35K.

Good luck.

Remember they are only cars. But I can relate to the issues with the blue SC having thrown a lot of money and time in my old cars as well.

Thanks Christian
So the documentation on the Targa is significant. Maybe Ill give the Targa a whirl on Ebay next. I dont drive it much and its a peppy little fun car. Needs someone to enjoy it.

Ill just do a standard auction with a reserve this time and see where it goes.

25k sounds low for the targa, even at this time of the year.

I'd take the offer on the blue one, and keep the other two.

The White one is worth well north of $30k -- I would think $35 would be an easy get with good photos, and the paperwork you describe.
