This is a damn shame...

I followed this Bat auction with great interest only to see it come down to this at the closing minutes. Anyone else happen to catch this live? SICKENING

Thanks bud.
Ridiculous comments the whole time, I felt like a lawyer pleading my case in the comments.
I should have done a little better job (valve job, compression test, leakdown test from jumpstreet), but I thought I did a pretty good job otherwise documenting and presenting the car. And it really is such a clean, original car. If it were a coupe or a better color, there's no way I would have sold it.

Well bought. The ironic thing is I'm sure all the angry spectators hate when dealers get the good cars, which just sit in their inventory and drive prices up - but this is exactly what's going to happen with this car thanks, at least in part, to them flappin their gums.

Ah well, I got what I needed and figured out that the very clean cars are not for me. I like drivers, and the buyers in that market.

I'm sure some of the folks commenting over there are also here. To the ones with nice things to say - I owe you a beer. To the others, let's sit down and have a beer and figure out why you feel the way you do.

So, a dealer won the auction and the problem is .... ?

To their credit, they did not hide their identity with an alias.

These BAT auctions can be very entertaining...

I believe that car was originally listed in the 2015 PCA Panorama magazine classified section for $28,500. You seemed to have done pretty good on this deal Mr. Flynt. Congrats! Some funny stuff in the comments section. How much do you think Lux Sport is gonna be asking for that puppy?

No problem. He bought it fair and square. Too many looky loos and naysayers. In the end the money talked though. Now the car will sit and collect dust on the freshly applied suntan oil ..

Entertaining for sure.
That was that car, but due to the sharks (myself included) smelling blood in the water, the price went up a bit. Seller was fully aware I was buying to sell which I'm sure was also a factor.
They could make a quick 10k with their marketing machine. I think they'll try for 15-18.

edit - And yeah, thought I had it sold overseas initially (immediately). Buyer flaked.
I had a newer ad that was black-holed because BAT requires you not have a price listed elsewhere and this place only lets ebay ads run sans-price.

They probably will put 100% original paint in their advertisement

The market is a little flat right now. Just look at the auction results someone just posted. Maybe we are seeing a leveling or even slight cooling period.

Cars are selling below estimates because estimates are inflated especially for cars with obvious defects.

Makes sense that its a little slow now but when the snow melts and the salt is gone nationwide I see no reason that sells wont spike up again or at least bring way more buyers to the table.

These are fair weather cars for the most part and when the sun comes out all will be
well again. That might not be good news to someone trying to get in as low as they can. Imo now is a good time to buy. kinda like a buyers market within a sellers market period That is a good car and Lux got a deal with plenty of meat left on the bone. He will probably have to sit on it for a little while to get his payoff. Based on the precedent that hes set for himself I'm guessing the car will be much better, with less owners, and no issues what so ever and the buyer will be none the wiser of it.

Unless of course he reads these forums.

That's when he learns"Its the same suit mate...with a higher price tag"

I doubt it. What's stopping a collector in Florida or California or Texas from going after these cars that are supposedly at discount winter rates? With the internet making every car sale national, weather and seasons are not a component. People know what they are looking for and will buy it if the price is right. You think a New York millionaire is bundled up in his home saying "Brr, it's too chilly to bid on that Ferrari that's $400k under estimates. I'll wait till the summer and pay more."?

Nothings stopping them thats why Lux bought the car at a good price and will make money, but I do think the average Joe is holding on to his hard earned money tight watching things closely. I think Joe is afraid that things might be maxed out and wants to be careful. Im talking about a guy that has limited funds, wants a car, and doesn't want to get hurt. The collectors and money guys are always going to be able to get and make the deals.

So the markets are slow now but just my opinion that its a good time to buy. No ones going to convince me that selling a car in December and January is going to have the pool of buyers that he would if it were May flowers after Spring showers. pretty much common sense to me.

Pretty similar to selling a home in that respect. Buyers will be coming out of the woodwork from here on out.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong.

Im no marketing expert ok

For the record I'm only talking about the Red targa and this particular sell on BAT.
Its just my opinion that that car went for a fair price and will probably bring even more money in the upcoming months. Yes as a whole prices are inflated and ridiculous and I concur that there are no winter bargains out there.

My guess is Lux will list it at 55k and someone will buy it come spring.

Skwerl,
I looked at your auction thread and it seems you are a bit of an expert so go easy on me.

Im just one of those average joes and have bought 3 cars in the past 18 months and I'm wishfully hoping the values will go up

My driveways getting a little crowded and I might need to sell one
soon

This might still go to europe. Targas are hot there.

If I wasn't in the market for something newer, I'd be all over a 964 targa, tiptronic of course.

Sorry, I didn't mean for my post to be snarky or confrontational. I just think the "prices are down because it's winter" thing is a bit of a canard no longer based in much truth.

And I wouldn't say I'm an expert, I just follow the market for some cars pretty closely and try to be dispassionate about what I see. I could be as wrong as anyone else, especially about the future.
