959 near SF (not really though)
I gotta say, it doesn't even look that bad:
1975 Porsche 911 959 Conversion I wonder what the transmission is. |
It definitely doesn't qualify as a Boss Sheeper with that V8 mill in there - bet it scoots pretty good if not coupled to a may-pop 915 gearbox.
I guess "4 speed manual" means either a 901(?) or a 930 gearbox? The 930 would be plenty strong for the torque of that engine, but I don't know what the 901 handles safely . . . |
I'd drive that..

Pretty cool actually. For sure not a sheeper

at least my buying a 75 with a motor meister rebuild that I'm going broke making right will not be forever shame. that car is a shame everyday. how many times was that V8 over heated before he threw in the towel and decided to sell I wonder?
unless you people, my people slap some MM scarlet letter upon me for eternity I hope to be driving in the spring with no regrets, or shame... |
not to highjack... but id seen the 959 replica in the SFCL a few days ago and got a good chuckle. I did not go into it enough to read it had a V8 in it.
in the same vein in SFCL is this. Beck 550 Porsche Spyder Replica - 911 powered outlaw as I was closing the deal on my car this was listed in an add with no details and crummy pics so never thought much about it. much more intrigued with this second add stating it has a 3.6L 964 engine in it. my pops looked into these reproduction units some years ago and they all seemed to be 4 cyl motor options. I wonder is this thing is balanced correctly and drivable? thoughts, & not to HJ.. t |
If it's a fresh 3.6, it's a $30k motor...

Looked at this 959 thingy for a friend. gbox is a 915 4 speed. Car is kind of cool in its own way but it needs a LOT to make it a reliable driver. For instance, clutch chattered uncontrollably, rear tail has no way to latch close, clutch return spring currently being "assisted" by bungee cord. Also, I'm pretty certain the cooling system would not be adequate for more than a few miles. Otherwise the chassis looks decent for what it is, no signs of bad accidents that I could tell, and owner is a nice guy.

ive never had a pcar that was a daily driver, but I would suspect that beck car would really limit driving opportunities. even in good climates how often could you drive it? this from a guy that spent all his allowance driving a dedicated racecar 6-7 race weekends a year for 6-7 years....
foolish is as foolish does... |
Probably the same opportunities afforded by my '65 Austin Healey: Few in New York, many in California.

Scabby KNees Turbo Powaa
Hey Rawknees,if you ever boosted a motor for this 550 with your build knowledge it would flip on its back like a flipping turtle. Then you would need a carbon fibre helmet instead of the carbon fibre kneepads I wanted to send you for Xmas.Happy Shart to you.Fred

^^^
Not so sure about the back flip, FabulousFaapinFred - the weight of my turbo-d*** would be a formidable ballast for the turbo powaaaa' to overcome!!! |
