996 turbo and a salvage title

Saw one for sale with 77k miles. Was just wondering to myself at what price does this beast become tempting. Price on this one is $30k. If you can get one with a clean title for around $40k, is $30k too high for a salvage title? Thoughts?

The guys being a bit unrealistic though in the fact that he's not willing to accept less. The fact that it has a salvage title means the insurance company has already paid him for the car. Getting a loan against a salvage title is difficult. And let's face it anybody with 30 grand cash sitting around is probably going to pony up another 10K and buy one without a salvage title. Just my .02

A high mile super car with flood damage and the world's ugliest interior..... yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a line around the block to buy it. Water damage is a kiss of death, it's a parts car at best.

Salvage hurts the value between 25-30% on average. Flood is sometimes worse because like this guy is realizing, when you think you have the car sorted, something else will pop up. Flood cars can be nightmares because as stuff gets corroded from being wet it stops working, but this takes time, so you could be chasing things down for years.
Personally I wouldn't buy this car unless it was about half price of retail, and for that you can roll the dice. The good news is the guy seems to be pretty forthcoming about the car, he isn't giving you a song and dance about water "splashing the tires", I always loved that one.

Electrics and water don't mix. This guy is dreaming. With the amount of wires, harnesses, and sensors in a 996TT - water damage to electrics is a freaking nightmare. I wouldn't touch it at that price. You'd regret it once you realize everything in there is corroded and will need entire harnesses replaced - and then $5K later you wish you bought the better car.

Garage
It's currently on EBay with 202 "watchers" so it has generated a fair amount of interest but apparently no takers at this point. It's not priced much lower than similar mileage Turbos on the market. I bought a nice 106k miles 2004 manual cab for under $30k in November. I think the risk here trumps the small price differential when considering the water issues and no mention of service history. The interior and chrome wheels are a bit disturbing as well.
