1972 value

Hi. I have come across a 1972 Targa with 38,000 original km on it. Original paint, webers and interior redone.

What is the value of a low km 911 of this vintage?

gearby 02-24-2017 12:46 PM

I highly doubt that car has 38,000 original kilometers as a car with that low of mileage would not have a redone interior. Weber carburetors on a low-mileage car like that could be a possibility if the car was left to sit for an extremely long time but I have a '72 coupe with 103K original miles that still has its original interior. 38K km is only 23.6K miles. Because these odometers flip over at 100K it would be much more likely your car would have a 138K km or possibly even 238K. By comparison, my car has its original uncracked Dash, original hood shocks, original deck lid shock, original fuel sender, original carpet, etc. There's very little on my car that isn't original and that car has 103 K original miles. You might want to look a bit closer at the car as the difference in value between a 38k original kilometer car and a 138 k kilometer car is a lot of money.

Buy it.

Without a solid trail of records and invoices to prove mileage, this car (and any 911) without full documentation is mileage unknown. Luckily condition is more important than mileage so if this is an original paint 72 without significant rust, $50k is very low. In fact it could be worth 2x it's current price. If this car is an E or S....3x or more possibly. Really depends on a lot of details and the details of this car are vague right now.

Sounds too good to be true. Is it an ad or have you seen the car? Make sure it isn't a scam.

$50K CAN is about $38K USD.
Rust, rust, rust.
Price is hard to beat.

Thats too cheap. If the car is complete and not a rust bucket its worth that all day long. Buyer beware

Ok boys, here what I know. It's a new neighbour of mine, just divorced. Car has been redone. I will enclose what she told me and pictures.

'I don't have anything to verify the approximately 39,000 km's on the car, but the engine is original.... I guess a mechanic could verify that.

I have had her for 17 years now and bought her from a gentleman in Pembroke who had her for a few years.... I understand it was with another gentleman in Brockville for quite some time who would flatbed it to Arizona and race it there in the winter. I have pictures of that. She was also stripped down many, many years ago and redone. I will send them to you as well. I put all new leather in her last year and she had a full cleaning of the engine and carbs, all new lines, etc, with a receipt detailing the work. I have the original manuals and many extra spare parts (new) for her too.

The green engine shroud is indicating an E, not a T, but without the engine serial number its impossible to tell. At 50k canadian its still a steal if it runs and drives. Buy it now or you'll regret it. If you can get the cars vin and the engine number you can get a pretty good idea if its original or not. The fuchs look repro to me.

Great color. Is that Olive?

Buy it.

gearby 02-25-2017 10:48 PM

dg567 02-26-2017 11:45 AM

pmax 02-26-2017 12:12 PM

Yup, what he said. That's like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Ok boys, checked the #'s. Engine, VIN on pillar and under hood all match. 9112210344. Looking at closer to $60,000 Canadian. It is an"E". I have more pictures.

The body VIN number won't be found on the engine, You need the COA to find out if that's the original engine for that body.
