Hollywood Wheels Amelia Island

Wondering if anyone here is going to attend and could report back on the condition of the cars.

I know a few years back their auction was less than desirable. But they have some VERY NICE cars this year.

Looks like they going after the Gen X sport car market.

Speaking of they have a (THE) Gen X grail car. The ferrari F40.

Came here just to say that. Do not bother attending.

They shill bid everything to about 130% of real market value; nothing actually sells. They get the listings by over-promising and allowing insane reserve numbers.

I don't understand shill bidders or why it would happen why not just put a reserve.

On the other hand those looking to steal or get a nice car on the cheap..

That's not what these types of high profile auctions are about. It's about selling for top dollar NICE cars to those with means.

If you want to steal or buy on the cheap there is always BaT.

I don't understand the animosity towards the sky rocketing aircooled market.

It was bound to happpen partly because that was the GOLDEN ERA of porsche and partly because.. porsche is no longer porsche.

That said there are SO MANY low priced water cooled porsches out there why be upset? The performance potential is much higher on these cars due to the great strives in automotive technology.

Huh!?! BAT is expensive as **** in my experience? The best place to get all the money if you're selling a five-digit car.

Maybe even 6 digit ones too, member "Mang" sold his 79 turbo last week, it brought $120k.

BaT seems to have sweet spot in the 5 figure range. Six figure cars not so. Seems to be a glass ceiling when approaching $100,000.

The exception to this and it is a big one is nicely carried out back dated cars.

Really good money for those cars.

$95-120K for an 89 25th? Where are they getting these estimates from?

You have to admit that was a little low for that car. I was expecting another $20k
There are more "Reserve Not Met" Porsches that run through BAT than Sold cars.

The good thing about Hollywwod Wheel auction is that you have a good chance to get a great deal as there aren't many serious bidders and a ton of cars do not sell. So lots of owners panic and sell bellow their reserve when they see the weak bidding activity. The bad part is the poor quality of many of the vehicles, which is not disclosed to the sellers. From cars with rusted floors to cars with salvage titles.. So you just have to be careful and definitely do a thorough research on cars you consider bidding on.

Something tells me the Ferrari F40 will have no problem attracting bidders.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the guys with big bucks (those bidding in the $100,000 + range) are actually dealers/brokers. Seems like the same 4 to 8 bidders on all cars porsche/ferrari over $100,000.

You take those bidders out and there would be a void with cars that's reach over $100,000.

What I'm saying that BaT is a excellent place to sell a $50,000 car.

Not so much for a $100,000 car.
