Thinking of selling my '79 SC

I am thinking of selling my ’79 SC. I love this car dearly, but I just got my hands on nice 964 and I can’t afford to give the SC my undivided attention anymore.

I bought it just about a year ago in Denver from the second owner who owned it for most of its life. It’s a pretty unique car which is why I’m hesitant to sell it. It is light blue metallic with a cork interior. The car was ordered with the clear anodized window trim, H1’s with chrome trim rings, and cookie cutters. *It was repainted around 2009 the original color and it even has the original Bob Hagestad dealer window sticker.

I do love the cookie cutters, but due to limited tire options, I procured some 16” Fuchs. I actually have a set of 6” and 7” and 9”s. The 7”s and 9”s are currently on the car plastidipped black. The other picture I have below is the day I bought it when it had the cookie cutters mounted. The 6s and 7s are a slightly different finish than the 9”s which is part of the reason for the plastidip. The 9”s are immaculate and actually came in the box, never mounted. I’ve done a bit of work to it over the past year to freshen it up.

Turbo tie rods
Turbo valve covers
New bilstein HDs all around
New shifter bushings
Valve adjustment
New plugs
Refurbished the fogs and replaced the old broken lenses with the Bosch yellow lenses
New master cylinder and soft lines
New pioneer head unit and infinity speakers
New clutch cable
New heater hoses
Momo prototipo wheel

So my question is what do you think it's worth and what wheels should I sell it with?

Who painted fuchs wheels all black? They need to be restored with a polished lip otherwise that will be a hit on the value. I usually won't even look at a car with incorrect wheels. Ditto for putting the original steering wheel back on.

Otherwise, it's a great color combo, did not see mileage listed but 30-40k depending on that number.

How many miles? All the maintenance up to date? How much documentation? Rebuild on engine or 915? Looks like a nice honest example by your description/pics and I'm sure you won't have a problem selling it.

I would turn it back to stock as much as possible and give it a good detail if you want top $$$. Sell the rims and steering wheel separately or make it a package deal. $30-$40k depending in maintenance, history and actual mileage.

The wheels are plastidipped black, which is a rubberized coating that can be pealed off revealing the original finish of the wheels. Its a good way of seeing if you like the look before committing

The car has a bit over 113000 miles. I have most/all of the documentation dating back to the original owner. The engine and gearbox are original non rebuilt. The clutch was replaced at 103k or so. The car has continuously been described in the documentation as a nice honest car and I can attest to this. It has been a pleasure to own and drive with no fuss. I still have the original cookie cutters and steering wheel so going back to stock is pretty easy.

The fact that its engine and trans are NOT rebuilt would interest me way more if leak down was good and trans shifted well. If mine I'd certainly want more than 30k for this big port 911.

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.

agree with others....I love the look of the cookies, but the fuchs are the wheels that belong, don't love the plasti-dip, but I understand why you did it.

so, 7's and 9's are the best fit in my opinion

when you recently did the valve adjustment, were the head studs checked? that's the achilles heel of this motor.

other than that, detail the interior specifically, clean up those seats, it won't take much but the presentation will improve dramatically.....if the leak down and compression #'s check out, I'd say mid to high 30's is possible....it will sell 32-35k pretty quickly. if the numbers aren't great, it's a 29-32k car.

The head studs have all been checked and they're good.

I did a compression test when I changed the plugs and all the cylinders were between 155-165 PSI. I have not done a leak down test though. As for the gearbox, it shifts pretty well for a 915.

Nice looking car.
The seats look very dirty.
I'd try to deep clean them before selling.

You sell them with original looking Fuchs. Period.
In fact, even wearing OEM FUchs, I would hazard to guess that offering free other wheels may even decrease the value of the car.
Sell the wheels separately.

Low to mid 30's sound about right.

I Don't know if I should go there but,
I bought my '83 SC in Dec and paid 28K for it. I bought it sight unseen, except for a thorough write up and lots of photos. Had I been more Porsche savy before I bid on my car I would have asked more questions, and I was very surprised that of all of the supposedly knowledgeable Porsche owners that made comments, none of them asked really specific questions.
Point is I'm very happy with mine. It is completely unmolested, looks very good for a 34 yr old car.
The miles are getting up there at 180K but I don't expect to be flogging it and if I keep it I expect it'll entertain me for several years.
The thing is , as there are more sellers out there that desperately want to rid themselves of their air cooled 911, the more the prices will drop, and we have to be ever cognicent of that.
The air cooled 911's will always have a value, regardless of how inexpensive the water cooled cars become.
I hope I made sense.
