Logistics of a Bring a Trailer sale

So i'm thinking of putting my car up on BAT. But, I have some logistical concerns that perhaps you guys can help me out with.

2 things:

PPI: People are going to want to do an independent PPI, I get that. However, i can't say i'm comfortable with every interested buyer taking my car to their guy who i don't know. Here's what i'm thinking of telling buyers when this issue arises, let me know if this is reasonable:

Fortunately for me There are 2 well respected porsche specialists within 5 miles of the car's location. The buyer is welcome to flatbed the car to one of them on their own dime.

Also, I would only consider people with an open bidders account on BAT.

This would be my first time selling a vehicle so i don't know the common protocol. If you guys know of a better way let me know.

What type of Porsche are you selling? I've seen allot of Porsches listed on BAT with PPIs done before the auction (compression result and paint meter photos etc...). This will definitely give the buyer some piece of mind. Transparency is key obviously. You'll get picked apart if you try to hide any evident issues or beat around the bush when questions come up. GLWS!

Do your own PPI and post results. No way every joker, tire kicker, and a$$ clown is going to even take your car to get a PPI - never mind pay for it. I doubt if more than one guy would even do it and follow through. Pick someone you trust, post the paperwork and numbers and be done with it.

It's a one owner 87 cab with 45k miles. Trust me It's as special as it sounds.

I think doing my own PPI and posting paint meter pics along with compression pics is the route i'm going to go. If they demand to have their own PPI done i'm just going to have to say tough noogies. (pardon my french)

What about test drives? Same concerns apply here. How do i weed out the serious buyers without relying on instincts alone? I'm not interested in having my car be some joyriding machine while getting jerked around by schmucks. Should I require that the buyer already bid on the car? I guess that presents it's own challenges because the buyer could say I don't want to bid on the car unless I test drive first... HELP!

It's a 7 day auction that has a worldwide audience. You're listing your car on BAT to get away from the tire kickers/joyriders. I would guess 95% of the vehicles are bought site unseen on BAT. If you have someone that is serious about checking it out in person, talk to them on the phone and use your best judgement.

Also make sure not to get into arguments with the peanut gallery on the comment section. I've seen this hurt vehicles sale prices many of times.

I was just being a smart ass, to answer your question I think you have the right idea, disclose as much as you can. Picture everything. No one will ask for test drives(well some might but thats odd for an auction) If they are local and serious then fine. Maybe a short video of the car running will help.

As for PPI's The cars sell quickly and sellers really don't want to bother with it.

Buyers do a little research and trust your gut. As long as the car is not a complete hack job/lie you should have some fun with the purchase!

Here's a good comp for your 87. Follow this auction and you should do well.

Get a PPI and post the results- be as upfront as possible. Like others have said- chances are no one bidding is going to be local so you probably won't have to deal with any test drives. If someone does show up then they are probably a pretty serious bidder. Post all you can including videos- it will most likely sell to a buyer you never meet in person.

BaT won't take a car without a no reserve or a reasonable reserve. It isn't a good format for dreamers.

Not dealing with a buyer in person presents another challenge. What's the most common way of dealing with that? Escrow service?

I think Arbee's having sentence structure issues. Pretty sure he meant to say, "BaT only accepts cars being sold with no reserve or a reasonable reserve." Hence, the not for dreamers (sellers with $$ in their eyes).

So you wouldn't be willing to drop the car off at a local shop on the buyer's behalf?

BAT recommends that the finances be handled via an electronic funds transfer into bank of seller by bank of buyer.
When I sold my car with BAT this worked well.
My bank personnel notified me when the funds were in my account, then I USPS'd the title to buyer.
The buyer's transport service picked up the car a few days later.

^^^ This is how I paid for my car. I received the title overnight after the wire transfer cleared. I would overnight the Title to be a good seller. It's stressful to wire that kind of money to a stranger and hope for the best.

The PPI and post results is the only way to go

Don't worry about the joy ride thing. There is no way someone is going to bid, win and pay the fee to drive your car around the block. That is a craigslist buyer issue.
