Scams are piling up. Perhaps the right solution is..

It is obvious that the scammers have found their way onto Pelican and it's getting worse.

Maybe the only way to keep them away is for Pelican to require a certain amount of posts and/or interaction before a member can post in classifieds.

I know that it could keep some legit people away, but Pelican is a community and if someone really needs to sell their car, there are tons of other sites to do so.

Agreed. I've purchased two cars from fellow Pelicans, and in each case, I researched their post history to get a handle on the type of person they are.

Requirements should include being a registered member for, say, at least six months. I agree with the concept of a minimum number of posts, just not sure what that number should be.

No matter how legitimate they are, I would never buy a car from someone who joins the forum and lists a car for sale on the same day.

I will also keep the sales community based to do it this way, so it weeds out the people who do not care about this awesome community, and are looking for a free way to list car.

And do not wire money until you have seen title/seen car/or someone has seen car, and it's legit. And that goes doubly for parts.

Sick of getting PMs on WTB ads from posters with 0 or 1 post.

PELICAN, FIX THIS

Rawknees'Turbo 04-10-2017 02:13 PM

356, 912, 914, 924 and Boxster owners should not be allowed to post in the classifieds, regardless of ***post count***; the first four will be way too slow with their responses to questions (response times that could me measured with a sundial!) and the Boxster peeps will be too busy getting their hair done and going to aerobics classes to be reachable for questions, etc.!

Seriously? Wayne and team are gracious enough to allow people to post WTBs or for sales. FREE I might add. This in addition to the fore-most forum of bottomless information on Porsche. Again, FREE!

Now because of your demonstrated inability to deal with or handle a WTB you want Wayne and team to fix-it? Is there anything else you would like Wayne and team to fix for you??? Would you like an extra side of fries with that too???

Let me recommend a fix for you, it's simple, if you cannot handle the process of posting a WTB or for sale, DON'T!!!

Thanks for that, it was a pretty agro response.

Vis a vis, free: How much do you buy from our sponsor? I think I spent 25K at Pelican last year on 3 different builds. Free? hardly. This is a service bro, a service subsidized by people like me that buy lots of stuff from Pelican, FAITHFULLY.

vis a vis WTB: There are DOZENS of other forums where you cannot send a personal message unless you have a specific post count. This eliminates the Nigerians who troll these boards.

Get it?

 what if it was made 18 months to post an add? cat would have 6 more months...

Catorce 04-11-2017 03:07 PM

^This is why reading comprehension is so important.

I said there should be a MINIMUM POST COUNT to send a PM. LIKE ON OTHER SITES.

Tracking? You can post a WTB immediately, but you need to have, let's say 10 posts to PM someone. This effectively eliminates the scammers who sign up and then PM you that they have your part, even though they have zero posts.

Here is one I got the other day. Does that seem legit to anyone?

Try it. Post a WTB, and look how many of these you get. Then tell me my idea of having 10 posts before you can PM is wrong.

juanbenae 04-11-2017 03:30 PM

I have and frankly the junk does not bother me so much. I just move to the next seller and do my due diligence before entering into a deal. there are a number of sellers that ive soured on from personal experience and reading the done me wrong threads over the year(s) that have replied to my WTB and they go the route of the Nigerian prince offers, the shat can. have you ever used craigslist? do you yell at them to do something too?

maybe you can tell us exactly what you would like pelican to do? really? do you have an idea? a software program that sniffs out princes? really, id seriously like to hear how you propose they "FIX IT" other than drawing some arbitrary line in the sand with post count or membership duration that suits you.

Catorce 04-11-2017 03:41 PM

What I want Pelican to do was written in my last several posts. You'd love them if you read them.

If the minimum post count was 5, you would have met that in this thread.

Catorce 04-11-2017 03:56 PM

5 posts is still more work than these scammers feel like doing. In any case, that's the way it is in Early 911S Registry as a point of comparison.

that's an exclusive club you reference, the S registry. check in on rennlist, you have a buy a membership to post in the classifieds. for you having been here for a year posting I do not know how you could possibly comment of the "amount of recent scammers"? accurately. not to pull rank, but I'm a tad over 15 years in and see no more, or no less scams than say 5-6 years ago. weed through them, find the keepers & turn your cap lock OFF....

if it was up for vote now id say two years just to spite YOU.;)

EDIT-- check my post count, "8888". I'm pulling a zeke and that nimrod from Oregon twebb and abandoning this account and starting a new account with a zero post count only to continue the revelry from jump!!!
