You would do well to post more pictures. The car looks clean in the one posted, but that only tells the story of one side. Price doesn't seem out of line.

Yep...pictures.....pictures...pictures sell. Especially when they are right side up!:)

At the risk of sounding too rough, that ad isn't great, and could be made 10x better with very little effort. As mentioned, fix the photo. The fact that it's upside down and you've bumped it twice indicates you know and you don't care, so someone might be prompted to ask what else you don't care about.

Way more pics. All sides plus interior. It could look nice on the outside but ratty on the inside.

Don't use terms like "several spares", "etc" - list them, even if it's a long list. It adds value to what the potential buyer is getting.

Don't tell the buyer what they care about ("do not effect the performance which is what this enthusiast cares about"). It sounds pedantic and patronizing. Plus, people DO care what the car looks like - Porsches are beautiful and we want them to stay that way. Rock chips in the bumper are normal and to be expected at that mileage. No need to call extra attention to it other than to say "a few rock chips, typical of the mileage". Unless it really is in rough shape, then it might be worth spending $300 to have the bumper resprayed. A resprayed bumper won't affect value of a boxster with 150k on the clock, but might help draw in more buyers.

You mention a lot of receipts - maybe list some of the bigger item things. Nobody cares about windshield wipers, but they might care about a brake job, coolant flush, regular oil changes, etc.

A quick search on autotrader tells me you might be a priced a bit high. $9000 will buy a comparable car with about 100k miles on it. Nothing wrong with holding out for top dollar but a high ask with a poor ad is a guaranteed no-sale.

Sorry if I sound harsh, just trying to be honest.

At least we know what color it is now

Lots of miles
Picture upside down
Only one picture
Replacement engine
Tons and tons of Boxsters on the market
9k will get one with like 60,000 miles
I love my 986 but they just don't seem to sell? We've had the same 8 examples on craigslist for month and month.

The market for Boxsters is just rough right now, the bottom is bringing them all down. I'm seeing regular ads for running Boxsters for around $5000, so this hurts normal cars like yours. My advice is take any realistic offer, things aren't going to get better.

I usually skip past looking at a car if I see an ad with an upside down photo and vague description of the car.

Here is a good example to follow.

Also, there are quite a few CL postings in my areas with high mileage Boxsters listed for $5K to $8K that just are not selling.

They made billions of 986 boxsters, there are tons to choose from. You have to be realistic about selling price.

He is asking $8,500 without the GTS seats and roll bar extension.

Thanks,

I will take all of it and refine.

In case you missed it the previous 47 times, put your pictures right side up...

That high mileage 2002 S is an interesting ad.

A 40k-50k mileage 2001 S would be like $13k, right?
200k miles is off the charts.
I'd think that drops the price to half, assuming you can ever find a buyer.
Most people won't touch that mileage with so many choices around.

But, it has a recent engine rebuild, so the guy is looking to get his money back.
How do you price that? Try to recoup 50% of the rebuild?

I don't think you do. If you have to rebuild the engine at high mileage (assuming due to IMS or something similar, where it was forced, not by choice) then you accept that you'll always be upside down into the car and drive it forever, until too many things are breaking to bother fixing, then you send it off to a dismantler for $1000.
