Price of a RUF resto/mod

Hi Gang

I'm just daydreaming while trying to drift off before an early track day tomorrow.

Does anyone know what it would cost to drop off, say, an impact bumper car in fair to good shape at RUF and have them rebuild it to hot rod engine spec while lightening refreshing and with their integrated roll bar etc etc.

In other words the works but not entirely changing the character of the car - just having one of the best builders in the biz go over every mechanical system and interior upgrading and perfecting. And yes repainting.

Any thoughts - is this like a 100k, 150k, 80k, 200k type thing?

interesting..... I would guess a 150K-$200K type of thing.... motor builds have skyrocketed.....

I would guess they would decline the job.

Matt is that not the kind of work they do - Saw a great documentary on RUF, granted it's not current - and seems they do customer cars so I figure working in specifics above a resto...

get a singer.

it's not like a somewhat small company like RUF would keep parts from long ago technology laying around. what parts there may be I'm sure they hoard for the real RUF built customers...

hope the track day went well.

You said they wouldn't change the character of the car. That's just too mild for what they do. They are also more of a manufacturer these days. You can still drop off a car for the works but your suggested treatment seemed too close to a restoration imo.

Take a look at the car they are taking to the shows this year's. Makes a Singer look half baked.

The 2017 RUF CTR Is A Brand-New Car With Classic Style and 700 Horsepower

I would think you are better off finding a shop in North America with the experience to do what you want. You can still order many of the parts that were available in the 80s direct from RUF or their Canadian distributor. I don't know if you can buy new or NOS transmission, suspension, brakes, etc., but there are better options for all that stuff in 2017 anyway.

Wheels, bumpers, interiors are all available. The drivetrain may be harder to source.

Pat Williams in Memphis has done a recreation of the Yellowbird for one of his customers.

RUF does do such builds, and often they are done very quietly for long time customers.

If you google the RUF RC5 and click images you can see a brown car they did last year. 964 based car, back-dated, 4.1L NA powerplant.

But I suspect the budget was slightly higher than indicated above.

Right on - thanks -- definitely going on the list of "when my ship comes in"
And I definitely hear the idea of a local shop who could be as experienced and skilled.
Because it's RUF's story and expertise I like more than any single RUF styling cue.

Matt that CTR is off the chain - wow.

Hey Shaun, your ship will be in soon i'm sure, and I highly recommend you invest in the big RUF upgrade and take me for a ride!!! :D

Have you tried finding an authentic W09 Ruf car ? They are out there. Putting a lot of money into modifying a Porsche with Ruf parts ? You still end up with a Porsche, not a Ruf. Just my $.02
