Need some help with a purchase
There's a C4S for sale here on Pelican & Rennlist at a very reasonable price. I've engaged with the owner & he has sent across pix of car, documents, pic of DL, a pic of the title & a selfie with & without the car, my request.
He has sent me his banking info, which I wasn't able to verify as the bank had already closed. Everything looks good but when I called House Automotive in Pasadena they said that the invoices were legit but the name I gave them did not mirror the name of the owner on the invoices ? I'm obviously being extremely cautious and I do not want to get scammed. I've called the current owner to discuss but had to leave a message. In the interim I thought I'd reach out to Pelican for some advice. Is anybody near Tujunga Cali that may be able to help me verify that this is a real deal ? I would gladly cover fuel & lunch costs if someone would be willing to go see the car. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance for everybody's help. |
His name is on the title?
I think you could ask him directly to explain why the invoices are in a different name. None of my biz, but what about the GT3, are you selling it? Or is this car an addition? |
If it were me I would buy a plane ticket.

I'm quite new at this, but I thought a 2004 Carrera 4S at just over 19K seemed to be about 10K less than it's worth.

I would fly out there but due to work & family I just can't do it. I'm reaching out to a friend in the LA area to see if he can facilitate. Why must this be so flipping difficult ? |
I have my eye on that car because if it checks out, it is a crazy good deal. That makes me suspicious enough that I would want to do the transaction in person.
|
Call Techweenie and let him handle for you. Couple of dollars for a peaceful decision.
|
I'm super close to tujunga. If you can get him to come to me I'll check it out for you. Tell him I live in Altadena
|
Hey man I think I could make it over there today or tomorrow afternoon if you want to give me a call we can set something up, or put me in contact with the seller. I'm not qualified to do a full-on PPI or anything, but I can give you a neutral third-party set of eyes on the car and seller.

I would pay a professional to check it out or find a car more local. Plenty of C4S pop up and the M96 is not a engine to gamble on.
Anyhow, didn't you just get burnt on the last 996 purchase you made sight unseen? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" |

So.....got hold of the shop that the fella just took the car to for an oil change and it needs about $7k worth of work, suggested by the shop. As many have mentioned previously, if it seems to good to be true it most likely is. I mean no disrespect to the owner of the car but at $19.5 one has to expect spending money in the not too distant future, also stated previously by one of the Pelicans. I am henceforth going to pass on her and hold off until something a bit closer to me comes up.
I appreciate all the advice from the panel. If anyone is interested in this car just let me know & I can forward some info across. Once again, thank you all for your help. |

As you know, the home run deals get swooped up in a matter of minutes on PP and RL...especially in the 964 market which I'm unfortunately in. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif |
No need to call me a jackoff seller. It's either you interested in my car or not. I have the right to increase the price if I want to. Thanks.
|
Funny as it may seem, I just came up to update my asking price for the car and I come by all these. He didn't even have the decency of telling me directly that he was no longer interested in the car after providing all that he requested for. Fine by me. I'm back to taking offers for the car.

Ranchy ....I spoke with him on Monday, tried to see the car, it was allegedly in a shop near my house getting a battery and oll change. I said I would stop by to see it and then Ranchy go nervous, said he would call back..and nothing. No response to email or text. Went by the shop and no record of the car in that day. Only one battery was changed that day, and it was not his.
I think this guy is fishing for deposits, honestly. He texted me on a 213 Los Angeles area code, which I called and spoke with him. Next day the number is no longetr in service and he posting messages to immediately sell his car well below market. Now he ups the price. Word to the wise. Stay away from this guy. He is not legit...otherwise he would have showed the car and sold it by now. |
I'm really disappointed in you War584. Atleast, now you know why I stopped taking offers when I told you I did and that was because "the guy who started this thread" told me to when he was going to buy the car. As soon as he changed his mind, I decided to raise the price after I was advised to by my mechanics. The choice is yours to believe or not. I'm done here.

It pays to communicate

Considering all the scams out there I was doing my due diligence and was being very cautious, the name on the invoice that didn't match the name on the shops copies was what brought up a major red flag and that made me very uncomfortable. As I mentioned in my text(s) it wasn't personal, you were nice on the phone and I bare no grudges, end of. By the way, I have the proof and I have no reason to lie and I did communicate a lot due to other red flags that I haven't mentioned here. |
^^^ I believe you made the right call here.

As we've seen recently in Washington, attack your detractors to gain credibility. It works from Cheeto, so why not car salesman?

I love the "priced to sell fast" at $22,500 in his ad. It didn't sell fast at his original price, now he raises it and thinks it will sell even faster?? Makes me laugh.

Old Ranchy trying to make some $$$ of unknowing buyers. Gotta love the Porsche community.

Re: IMS bearing and clutch for $1500
IMS bearing and clutch can be replaced for $1500.00? Really? The clutch kit cost is over $600, and the IMS bearing kit is around that number as well. Who is doing the wrenching? R&R a 996 C4S transaxle for cost on parts and $300!?

TOTAL AND COMPLETE FRAUD - VERIFIED TODAY. I called on the Craigslist add, spoke with the owner. He put his car on Craigslist several weeks ago and has been negotiating with a foreign sounding individual who convinced him to remove the Craigslist add. which the owner did. The owner is straight shooter and has now put his car back on Craigslist, which is the above link above. It is legit. Car is in good shape but needs some repairs.
All the info Urseppos asked for, picture, repair bills, etc. was simultaneously requested of the owner and sent by Ranchy back to Urseppos. I spoke with Urseppos to compare notes and spoke with the owner who confirmed the guy sounds the same. The owner said his identity was stolen a month ago and this could be the result. Mystery solved...Ranchy, you're a Fraud!!!! |
Well done.
|
So, if the legitimate owner has relisted the CL ad at 29.9, how does he come up with a $1500 IMS AND clutch quote? What am I missing? Is he absorbing most of the repair cost in the sale?

Somebody call Massengill customer disservice, there are douches on the loose!

He portrayed himself as someone else and he didn't have all his t's crossed & I's dotted and another Pelican caught on to similar. He did have the audacity to argue the toss on this forum and how easily some can be swayed, considering he/it has been on this site for a flipping nanosecond. All sorted now bar the fact that this individual has an open account at Key Bank in Indianapolis where the toe rag wanted money deposited. Isn't this a Federal offense ? Just because he's been ousted here on Pelican doesn't mean that this "Kevin" won't do this to others in the not too distant future. This asshat needs to be behind bars. |
Mods...I trust this guy has been banned. Correct?
