1973 911E Targa. Repaint. Non-orig interior and engine.

Someone I know was looking at a 1973 911E Targa.
Seems like a cool car, but more driver quality.

Repaint. Average quality.

Non-orig Interior: sport seats, door cards, sport steering wheel.
(Adds or subtracts value?)

Non-orig 3.0 motor from an SC
(Adds or subtracts value?)

Unknown mileage since replaced speedo.

Any guesses on market value?
It seems these cars typically sell from $40k to $70k.

Rust affects the value greatly. Non original interior is a big reduction in value. A 3.0 engine is also a reduction in value. Generally any mod is going to reduce the value. Especially in a long hood. Without pics it's hard to give a firm value but it sounds like you're closer to the bottom of your range.

How do we reconcile tribute cars that sell for $100k?
When do mods go from subtracting value to adding massive value?

A good rule of thumb, I think, is that a 3.0 does not add value when it replaces an MFI original engine

At this very moment in 2017, I'm not sure that a 3.0 transplant in any 1965-1989 911 adds value - nowhere near like it did and I believe it never will again.

When they are done as part of a full restomod with a plan rather than a band aid fix for something that is broken. A tribute is essentially a purpose built replica and priced accordingly.

Many BAT tribute cars look good from afar but are far from good.

Years ago many advised to keep the numbers matching engine when doing a swap. That's what I did when I put a high compression 3.2 in my 73.5.....Owned for 26+ years and no plans to sell, but next owner should be happy?
