I'm often looking at donor 924S's

This one has me puzzled.
Aside from Copart representing it as a "run and drive" donated car, does it look like someone attempted an engine swap of sorts? Intake looks different, although it might be perspective,and the plugs appear to be on the right.

Its a standard 944 2.5L engine that came also in the 87-88 924S. The cylinder head has simply been set down on the block backwards and the cam box, intake etc are not present.

Perhaps they snapped the belt. At any rate, the body is all I am interested in. Thanks for input. I have much to learn.
