Early 928 Value?
Just looking to get an idea on early 928 value. Looking at getting one again and I love the early ones! Last had a black / black 5 spd 86.5 15 years ago and definitely miss it.
Looking at a 1978 Oak green 5 spd / cork pascha interior with 110,000 miles on it. Interior doesn't look terrible, but it is worn. There drivers side seat bolster is torn, the dash has multiple cracks, but the car seems to be in descent mechanical condition with a recent servicing. The body is in fair shape with no apparent major damage but has multiple paint and clear coat peeling issues. Will need a repaint. Looks like an asking price of $8500? Thoughts? Appreciate any input!

Sounds like a fair price if has good bones. They are not cheap or easy/fun to work on, but I guess you know that.
I sold my Lindengrün 78 manual for around 50k euros 2 years sgo - but it was perfect and had around 50k miles on it and all documentstion. Any pics? |

I like them. A petrol blue 78 with cork leather sold for about the same here in CO about 2 yrs ago. It was a little rough but very presentable. I would look for a Euro version myself.

Appreciate the info everyone!
What would be a fair offer? $7500 +/-? Any opinions? Also, what's the main difference on an early euro vs US model such as a 78 model? Still K Jetronic? A bit more horsepower? Thanks again!

Definitely price out all the things you'll want to fix. The dash could be well into 4 figures. The repaint? Up to you, but could easily double your total investment in the car.
Prices have nearly doubled on 928s in the past 6-7 years, but I don't think the car you're describing is quite at that level. I'd start the discussion at $6K and expect to pay up to $7K.

I had thought about buying a fairly clean early silver repaint automatic car a few years ago that ran but had been sitting for awhile and glad that I did not buy it. I did some reading on trouble spots and the electrical gremlins not to mention the degrading of the interior persuaded me to think otherwise.

I've had a few 928's and I believe the earlier "spider leg" intakes were a work of art visually...
